When going from reverse to drive in automatic

Could you better describe what you're talking about? The car that I used to drive required you to push a button in order to pull down on the shifter. It wouldn't move without the button pushed in.

For alot of cars, when you're just going from reverse to drive, you can pull down on the shifter. I think it doesn't work going from drive to reverse or from P to R
 
I actually went a really long time without knowing that, I discovered it a few months ago and haven't pushed the button since to move to drive from reverse.
 
I usually don't push the button when I don't need to. The first time I did not use the button going from reverse to drive, and my mother was with me, I thought that I had just detonated a nuclear bomb or something, she went OFF on me... insisting that I was going to destroy the transmission.
 
1. get into reverse
2. roll back, keep momemtem
3. shift into drive, but before the transmission grabs, slam on the gas
4. impress the ladies by burning out in your 1995 camry.
 
My dad's 1972 Dodge Challenger had an automatic with a "Slap Stick" shifter that didn't need a button push so you could do those "Rockford Files" turnarounds. It wore out and you had to push the button. Toyota Tacoma Automatic, too lazy to push the button every time so just slide it from R past N to D. Now that we have snow I back out of the driveway and push to set in 2nd so it is easier to go slow in the school zone every morning.

One car we owned once had the button, but it didn't do anything
Our car now has a working button

pull. usually stay in the natural once I am out while backing. when the car stop completely, then pull it into D. I use the natural pretty offen. I wish I have a manual.

WTF is everyone talking about? My car has a shifter not on the steering column, but where the shifter would be for a manual. There is a button on the sid eof it that has to be pushed to move from reverse to drive. Also, I stop before I go from reverse to drive.

Hmm...I don't. Is that bad? Not going fast, just creeping back and then pull it into drive. 😱

When I went to pick up a natural diamond for my girlfriend, I just put the shifter into neutral and let the car coast into the parking space.
