When games get a release date..

(this didnt fit in console or PC but both, so I stuck it in off topic) Ever since the Unreal 2004 delay, everytime I hear a game release date pc/console, I cringe. And when a gamestop/eb employee asks me to pre-order, all I can think of is the number of people who had to wait for the Hl2 as it was delayed....

I think its great they take the time to refine games, but please don't give a release date...just release it when its done! I want to hear about new games, but I hate release dates!

Thoughts? Opinions?

I guess I never really got worked up if a company delayed a game. I will complaining of course. Some games you just want and don't really care when they get release as long as they are good games. I know several people that work at EB games, so I'm usually up to speed on the shifting of release dates.

When Blizzard sets a firm date, it sticks, and since I generally like all of their games that's ok with me, even if the game ends up taking forever to come out.

I think it would be funny if they started releasing games by just saying suddenly "Out Now!"

Then popularity of games could be judged by the number of traffic jams and violent events related to the day of its release.

Future Wikipedia article:

"Duke Nukem Forever achieved the mark of the all-time most successful release, leaving 7,000 wounded and 84 dead in the chaos of its unvieling, just nudging past Halo 3's 6,800 wounded and 80 deaths upon its release 35 years ago.Although high, it was supposed that it would be a higher number. This is mostly attributed to the fact that almost all had given up hope on the game ever being released, and many people never even believed the advertisement when told it was out."

I want Wrath of the Lich King 🙁. I want to explore new areas, peruse the lush landscapes, see the revitalized Dalaran, get my Death Knight !

That would be a pretty cool strategy, just blitz the tv with commercials on the release date like "OUT NOW!" It would be interesting to see the response...

yeah, but you have to get them to announce a release date 1st.

I never pay attention to release dates. I don't anticipate any games when they come out. I usually buy games used a year or so later actually. The only game I actually looked up recently was the new All Pro football from 2k sports....but since it isn't coming out for Xbox, which is all i have, i didn't care after that.

Took them years to announce StarCraft2 and now they're almost done. They're cheaters. 😉

I'm glad when I hear they have delayed games.

It means they aren't going to put out a half assed game that will be full of patches to get it how they wanted it.

Sure it sucks initially but I have grown to actually appreciate delays.

but they were doing pavlovian experiments with the word "soon" werent they? every time a blizz fan heard that word they would groan, knowing it was going to be another 1.10 fiasco

I gt shafted with Bioshock. Heard the release date (which they stuck to), pre-ordered two months in advance, then they didn't get in the collector's edition in a decent quantity, so i got shafted.

Agreed 100%. I dont even care for release dates anymore. I used to care, just like you, but I stopped. Instead I just try to divert my attention to games that are already avalable, completely ignoring all the upcoming games. I do like to read gaming news on gamespot, but I stopped regularly checking to see if a particular game came out yet.

Not caring is great, because when games do come out, it's like a surprise for me. I get more excited this way.
