When first reading a multipage thread...

Do you read the entire thing and then jump in, read the OP and jump in or skip to the end and just see what's going on.

I find myself doing the latter, and then reading the thread backwards to see what's up...
 
I read the OP, then the last 20 or so replies to see where the conversation is, then quote and join the argument.

I read the OP, first page, then reply. Then read the last page, edit my reply. Then read the rest of the thread and delete or edit my reply if the thread seemed to be interesting.

I'm with you. I would feel dumb is someone already said what I had to say. I just quote them and say I agree, or add to it a bit.

i usually OP, then reply but for threads like psulookout's google thread i had to keep reading.
 
Depends how long it is. If it is 3 pages or less I ususally read the whole thing. If it is longer than that I usually skim through the first few pages then read the last dozen or so posts to see if anything relevant has happened.

I usually read/skim the whole thing unless something in the middle incites me to post immediately.
 
If it's not a million pages I'll most of the time read the whole thing then post. If it's a really huge thread, just the last page then reply.
 
If it's in one of the real forums, I usually don't post unless I've read the entire thread.

In OT it's largely dependent on the subject matter and whether it's a simple nef/sucks to be you or a detailed response to something halfway interesting.
 
If you read the whole thread, put an off topic sentence at the bottom of your post involving pigs to prove that you read this post

Whole thread, always. Only exception is a pole thread like this, where I will usually write a quick comment about my answer. Doesn't matter if you repeat someone in this context. It really shits me when people don't read the whole thread.
