Another example of the fucked up American justice system. Some asshole in a government office trows common sense out the window and applies the law because it's the law.

We saw the same type of things with Roman Polanski this week.

The US is a great country but some of the things you do down there are bizarre.

Only innocent citizens and maaybe the occasional bored kids would go to a pharmacy and get some cold medicine OTC. Real methheads and drug dealers will handle their drugs through smuggling.

What is up with these ridiculous laws? I personally didn't even know such restrictions existed. What about places like Costco where they sell cold medication in syrup form literally by the gallon and tablets as big as their M&M bags?

I live in the state in question. I wrote a letter to my governor and state/federal congressmen/senators.

Ridiculous, but not surprised. Thank the patriot act.

You're as dumb as those who wrote this drug law.

And you are as ignorant as every other repug. Google psuedoephrine and patriot act. All pharmacies MUST keep record of every person who buys it.

Not if they have psudoephedrine HCL the don't.

Oh - Sedition looks like this violated STATE law, not federal. Looks like we are both right and wrong at the same time.

No matter, it's fucking stupid. Criminals will ALWAYS find a way around it, the only ones that suffer are law abiding citizens. Have you seen the "new" way to make meth using household items that can be carried with you? I think I even made an OP regarding it.

Never underestimate human ingenuity to circumvent law.

For one, not a Republican, nice try dumbass.

For two,
Indiana law 35-48-4-14.7, which restricts the sale of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, or PSE, products to no more than 3.0 grams within any seven-day period.

Reading. It's a pretty basic skill.

From the article:
Those two purchases put her in violation of Indiana law 35-48-4-14.7, which restricts the sale of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, or PSE, products to no more than 3.0 grams within any seven-day period.

So speaking from Indiana there are 92 counties...

By 12th smallest they mean they are the 12th smallest not the smallest county out of 12...but they are top 5 in meth production, which basically means they produce a lot of meth per capita. By no means am I saying they law was just in this case but get your facts straight.

On topic this is really a stupid law and could get a lot of potentially law abiding citizens in trouble...I mean parents with 2 or more kids could get arrested for having children with 2 different illness, which is pretty flawed.

The conviction might be wiped from her record, but the arrest record will not.

I wonder what the prosecutor would have offered if this was a much younger person with bad acne? Something like this could follow you around for the rest of your life.

I'm curious why she was buying cold medicine for relatives in the first place? I might purchase these drugs for myself and my family once every few years.

Maybe because they were sick and weren't able to go out themselves and get it? Or, she was out doing errands, so she just picked it up for them instead of making them make a trip for it?

Plenty of reasons why.

Actually, no. Meth producers used to go to a pharmacy and buy lots of pseudoephedrine (e.g. Sudafed). Then the law changed, so they went to multiple pharmacies to buy small amounts of pseudoephedrine from each. Hence the Indiana law restricting purchases.

The other medications you describe do not contain meth ingredients in a form easily extractable.

Pisses me off 'cuz the pseudoephedrine is much more effective for me than the on-the-shelf replacement phenylephrine HCl.

Woah does this hold true for any other states? We recently bought a house and stocked up on cough medicine, ny-quil, etc when stocking the medicine cabinet...

Kinda scary, isn't it?
