I was thinking about going to lake tahoe sometime in the next couple of months. Although I've never been skiing before, I'd like to give it a shot while I'm there, so I'm wondering if anyone knows when you can start skiing up there...

Also, can anyone give me an idea of how much it costs? I don't have any of my own stuff, so if I'm going to need to buy anything, please mention it.

thx

in Colorado it starts in November but it doesn't really get good till January-February. You'll need to rent skis and boots. You'll also need the appropriate apparel (snow pants, a jacket, a hat, and gloves). You don't need ski goggles, but I recommend using them (helps to prevent sunburn and protects your eyes). They cost from $20 to $200 (mostly dependent on brand).

If you have your own clothing and just need the ski rental, it will cost you about $15 or so per day depending on the resort. Also dependent on the quality of skis. Its cheaper to rent skis outside the resort as well. The lift ticket will run you anywhere from $40-60/day depending on the time of the year. Hotel rental will also be dependent on the resort...I'd research that part because I've never been to Tahoe.

Its not a cheap hobby :(
