When does one cross the line when it comes to killing animals?

When my sister came home today and I told her how many we caught..i mentioned I think I caught the mother because it was huge.

she replies.

"I HOPE IT WAS PREGNANT!"

that was a bit much.

For many animals there are laws, of course many of our armed asshats think taking pot shots at someone's pet is fine because they can.

So, how do you explain cats? My cats like "play" with chipmunks and mice...to death. It's great watching a cat fling a living rodent in the air, watch it try to scamper away (in fear) only to have the cat pounce and fling, again and again..until the rodent is completely dead. The cats could kill the rodent in one bite, but they prefer the extended "play" time.

How do I explain it? What is there to explain? Your cat is doing what cats have done for millions of years.

If you look at the history of human kind, we have done a LOT more awful things TO EACH OTHER.....and other animals, and we still do on consistent basis.

Chimps do most of the awful things that we do to each other. Perhaps the bad things we see in ourselves are a part of our ape heritage. In a way we're also just doing what apes have been doing for millions of years, just on a much larger scale.

It's called being civilized. If one wants to live safe in a civilization we need rules to keep the strong from just killing off the weak or just stealing whatever they wanted from them from ass to cash...

Why is it "great" to watch?

I knew I remembered an association between the op and glue traps. Virtually every thread he's ever posted was about killing mice with glue traps. Starting with this one in 2009.

I just read the OP. Holy shit that guy is...human. Plain old human. He's not sick. These are the things that people do, to animals and to each other. I don't like it, but that's what we are and what we do.

Animals are animals. There is no such thing as animal cruelty. Animals don't have feelings. Fucking bleeding hearts anthropomorphize them, attributing human qualities that just plain don't exist. Yes, I know your dog whimpers when you kick him, but 10 seconds later he'll love you if you bring him a treat. That's not feelings, that's instinct.

WTF is your argument. As if battered wives don't exist, cause only animals return to their abuser...

Cats and dogs definitely have feelings. Fellow mammals should be held in high regard.

Speak for yourself! I've never mistreated/abused an animal or person the way the OP described. The story in the OP indicates a serious deficiency of character to say the least. For you to to brush it off as mundane and then try to pass it off as normal behavior is disgusting and delusional. Sick demented people do shit like that, not normal ordinary minded people who have a shred of decency and compassion.

I remember back in middle school this kid I used to hang out with. The science teacher back then would allow kids to take home animals for the weekend and then we would have to come back with a report about the animal, its species etc... it was a cool idea that allowed the kids to interact with the animals and was more fun than just perusing an encyclopedia to write about snakes, mice etc etc etc... Well this kid got to take home a mouse for the weekend and he thought it would be funny to soak it in gasoline, light it on fire and laugh while it ran around. I was in horror and couldnt do anything to prevent it. But I remember kicking his ass and bloodying his face once the shock wore off and the mouse was dead. The story in the OP is sick and disgusting.

Disagree. There's obviously a certain level of sickness associated with an adult taking outright delight in causing an animal to suffer an agonizing death. It's not a coincidence that so many serial killers graduate to killing people after they've been torturing animals for years.
