Under communism it is the People's Economy.

Clever... /rolls eyes.

The USA is not now, and will never be socialist or communist. in spite of what the right wing blogs are feeding you, it just wont happen.

The USA became socialist this year with GM take over and stock ownership of bank.

Nope. It didnt. this is a free market and always will be, regardless of what you think is happening.

"When does Obama take ownership of economy?"

Depends on who you are talking to:

Republicans: 8 years ago, meaning they have nothing to do with what is going on now.

Democrats: in four months. maybe give Mr Obama a year

Voters: Right now

Voters: Right now

Ridiculous. The problems with the US economy are systematic and go back 30 years. They have nothing to do with Obama. Obama is, and always was, a tool. He kissed every butt in Washington (and Wall Street) to get the nomination and he has performed exactly as expected.

*As long as the US does not fix the trade deficit and bleed unimaginable amounts of money into the Military Industrial Complex the US economy the US economy will not recover.

*As long as the Holy Cows on Wall Street like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are allowed to leech off the US Treasury the US economy will not recover.

*As long as the bankrupt banking system is not fully flushed out the US economy will not recover.

*As long as Congress is thoroughly and utterly corrupt and in the pockets of various special interests the US economy will not recover.

*etc. etc. etc.

The problems with the US economy are SYSTEMATIC.

An economy built (and torn down) on continuous bubbles.

I would add the loss of manufacturing jobs and making less and less of our daily items but I would probably be flamed by the resident economists who think that we can be a full service economy.

I agree with this. We keep electing "someone different" for the sake of "change" but the fact is, every president is there by design, and there to do a job-protect those who put him there. I lay this blame on congress. They carry most of the weight for writing/passing budgets, catering to special interest groups, etc.

Wow just wow :cookie:

The Economy is congress's and corporation's, not the president's. For a crappy economy it is dumb to lay the blame on the president, his success is attached to something he really has little control over.

Labor unions? AARP? Code Pink/GLAD? moveon.org? Greenpeace? Congress is bought and paid for. Congress is the entity responsible for creating the federal budget, including taxes. I'm a big proponent of term limits for congress.

You all keep going back and forth as if its these special interest groups mentioned above (and many more not mentioned) ... and the other says it's corporations - back and forth, back and forth. You cant all be blind enough not to see that it is all of the above. Corporations and other special interest groups have owned Washington for at least the past 40 years. Its nothing new, and its not going to change. Laws are now, have always been, and will continue to be made to benefit the corporations and special interest groups that OWN CONGRESS. This congress, the last congress and the several dozen prior to that one. They will own the next several dozen as well. Lets at least get past the denial phase.

I'm not saying that corporations don't buy influence - of course they do. I'm not in denial and your post is quite correct. The one in denial is dmcowen674. Limiting the terms of congresscritters is the best chance we have in limiting this influence; if they're not always worried about keeping their 30 year political career going, maybe they'll actually pay attention to what their constituants say. Probably not though. 🙁

I think it's dependent on what legislation the President has supported/vetoed, and when it was passed. In Obama's case, he managed to get his stimulus bill passed very early in his presidency, (and, AFAIK, it was very close to what he originally wanted), so I'd hold him accountable for the results earlier than a president who didn't have such Congressional largesse.

Given that Obama has claimed that the stimulus package will, well, stimulate the economy, I think we need to hold him responsible for the state of the economy. Maybe when 75% of the stimulus funds are spent.

A more pertinent question is, given Obama's spending, at what point will we STOP holding him accountable? 10 years? 20?

Oh really? I can introduce you to many lobbyists paid by the Corporations.

Who do you think they are? Lobby fairies?

You need to go back to school child before it's too late for brain development.

I don't think the President is the main driver of economics but if the question must be answered... We gave him 4 years to run the country so I think it is fair to begin judging the results of the economy under his watch once the campaign for the next Presidential election gets rolling.
