When does coffee addiction become too much?

I prefer caffeine tablets. I can more easily choose how much I want to take, depending on how tired I am, and how alert I need to be. I never take more than 100mg at a time; normal is 50mg or less. 100mg is on the high end, and that really puts me on edge.
You can get a bottle of 80 200mg tablets at CVS for about $10.
Get a pill cutter, or else just use a knife.

It's reasonably cheap, and is much quicker than brewing your own coffee, and faster than buying it at Starbucks.

"Everything in moderation."

If you even get to the point that you're addicted, to say nothing of confessing that you're worried about it, wouldn't you think it's time to do something about it? 😕

Yesterday I tried to go the entire day without drinking any coffee. About 3PM, I went to lay down, and just generally felt like crap until about 5PM. I forced myself to get up at that point because I was not up for reversing my sleep cycle.

I was fine up until about 3PM... and after 5PM I was just in a laid back, just overall generally tired kind of feeling.

So, I cannot get through an entire day without coffee... unless I sleep like 8-9 hours which just doesn't happen, and even then, at some point during the day, I may crave it slightly. I may get 7 hours of good sleep at most.
🙁

I go through this about every 6 weeks for midterms and finals. For 2-3 weeks (while cramming) I pretty much depend on caffeine (coffee, energy drinks, soda) then when tests are over I stop drinking it. It's a vicious cycle but hopefully in a few years I'll be done with it.

I always feel like crap for about a week after I stop the caffeine intake. I feel tired all day even though I get plenty of sleep.

Just take a day off here & there. You're a big boy, you can tough it out. Start with a weekend day (or any day you have off from work/school).

..when you sort out the drunks..smokers..dopers and look at coffee drinkers only, you'll find that they are as healthy or healthier then the gen.pop. with much lower incidence of gall blader disease and alzheimers:

I would assume I'm averaging about 20oz a day of it, which I'm not sure if it's too much for my body size (6'2'' and 180lbs).

I'm 6'1" and 175lbs. I average 80oz every single day and have for the past few years. Just yesterday I decided to cut back to ~32oz per day. We'll see how that goes! I tried to drink just 16oz yesterday, but around 2:30 I couldn't keep my eyes open, so I decided on 16oz in the morning and 16oz in the afternoon.

And coffee isn't all bad. It has some really good health benefits too: source.

Want cream with that? Too bad, you're getting it.

One pump, or two?

Well sure, but this thread was about the effects of the caffeine, and that sort of addiction. I might be "addicted" to grape-flavored Kool-Aid, or mint Oreos, but I can quit without any (physiological) withdrawal symptoms.

Hence my mentioning of the more convenient, portable, controllable caffeine pills.

80oz... Wow!

Ok, I'm not worried in the least bit anymore. Thanks everyone.

Equally positive things are said about cannabis and alcohol - especially red wine.

Yeah. The whole process of brewing and drinking is a nice slow one. It's the same reason many people would rather roll a joint and go through the act of smoking it as opposed to popping some oxycotin tabs.

I'm 140 Lbs and was drinking 6-7 cups a day. (1 24Oz coffee + 1 16Oz coffee) 6 Oz per cup. ~100mg per cup. 200mg or more per day = withdrawal symptoms when you stop.

So 600-700mg/day for me

I weened down to 1-2 cups a day, and can avoid withdrawal if I drink a green tea, which is maybe 35mg. You'll be fine, just ween it down. I was drinking 7cups a day while training for a new job where I had to wake up at 5:45am. Once I adjusted I weened it down. Easy.

I mean at 7 cups, I was like "I NEED MY COFFEE BREAK!@!@!@!" because I would get nauseous/migraines if I missed my coffee at lunch.

The key is to ween down, not to just go cold turkey.

I haven't read anything but the original post. 😛 Bite me.

6'2"/180 pounds? You're a sick-looking, skin-bag of bones, dude. You obviously have other problems besides caffeinne. Such as EATING. That moving hole on your face? Yeah, that's your mouth. Food goes in there. Try it sometime.

I need to lose 15 pounds, admittedly. But compared to you, I'm healthy...I'm a fucking Olympian! I'm 6'1"/220. If I hit you, you'd snap like a pencil. Skeletor.

Welcome to caffeine addiction.

Yep.

Which is why caffeine is good for studies if you use it sparingly in 3-day max bursts of no more than 200mg/day. Otherwise you will get addicted if you use it regularly and in larger amounts.
