Not sure, but this makes sense to me and the guy seems to have some credentials :)

When you have a strong country like Germany sharing a currency with a nation that is poorly disciplined such as Greece you have problems. Imagine if the US and Mexico started to share a currency and it was not dictated by the US (with Mexico merely using it, like in many countries) but actually a board independent of each one decided on it.

I think it's more scary that the Euro is worth only $1.30 CAD. That's mind blowing right there.

i just started paying attention again and the dollar has gained in just a couple of days. i need to pull out some old invoices i had from a few years ago and see what the usd to euro was when i was ordering some stuff from germany and see how we are doing now.

just switching over to win7 and that gadget is pretty interesting....anybody know of a better "gadget" that will show more than 2 currencies other than the ms one? of course, keeping it small?

You can add more than one of the same gadget on your desktop.

My organization is funded in Euros and spends in a 50:50, USD:EUR ratio, so we work with the exchange rate every day. Suffice it to say, we have called a few emergency budgeting sessions to re-budget the rest of the year at revised exchanges rates.

This time last year, we were working with a 1.36 exchange rate. Makes a big difference!

What range are your budgets based on since there's no way the current exchange won't change?

When I first went to Europe almost 10 years ago, the Euro was ~$0.89 to $1.00. It was a nice discount.

well, at least this whole Greece imploding mess will be good for our export. I was planning to buy an ipad in the US, I guess if it continues like this it will be cheaper to buy it righ here

I'd say never. There's actually a backlash over there when a country like Greece screws up their budget. Over here, not so much.
