all good things must come to an end - or as the french say, toutes les bonnes choses doivent arriver à une fin.

ever since i was a little kid i have been hearing people say that "by 10 years from now, society will be collapsed". so far it hasn't happened, but one of these days they have to be right... right?

when do you think society as we know it will collapse, and we will return to the stone/bronze/iron/dark/middle ages?

Probably whenever the US is dumb enough to elect a full Republican run government again..

But seriously, it'll happen likely a few years after we run out of fossil fuels if we don't find decent alternative energies.

Not human society's.

To answer the op, soon. Our society is all about profiting from the labor of others, pretty soon those others are going to tell us to fuck off.

We still have Africa, so I'd give us another 30 years or so of the status quo. Then robots?

With that definition of collapse, your poll should have a "never" option.

Capitalism will be reformed.

Capitalism has been reformed. Now you have work programs, such as the military, welfare, subsidized money for the farmers, government lending programs for failing businesses and banks. The ultra rich have learned something since the French and the Russian revolutions, if they want to keep their heads. Chaos or lawlessness means no more protection for the rich.

I love these predictions. They're like the doomsday predictions of the crazy Christian cults.

Regardless, human society as a whole will not collapse. A single nation or a few nations might have a revolution (like 1848 and/or 1917-1919) but the winners will quickly return things back to the normal order no matter what they preach. Perhaps killing a few tens of million in the process, depending on the country. And everything will almost exactly the same until algorithms are used to govern all man. So I chose 3000.

What a strange direction for a collapse. Modern satellites, transistors, etc. didn't exist in the 'stone/bronze/iron/dark/middle ages'. Or do you mean the collapse has begun?

Both parents having to work outside the home, kids raising themselves, the inability to differentiate between reality and online, not knowing your neighbors, no clue how the technology they depend on actually works and, a fervent desire to be left alone. I'd say society has almost reached bottom.
