When do you think Dell will release a Conroe-based PC?

I need a new PC... Dell financing may be my only option.

Since I'm not seeing any fantastic deals (for Dell Canada) I'm wondering when you think Dell will release a Conroe-based unit.

Immediately? A month later?

Any ideas?

It'll be right around the 23rd. You could always go with a Precision 690 if you want a chip(s) based on the new core architecture.

They probably have Conroe systems waiting right now to be packaged. They'll be out immediately after the official introduction.

If you're that hard up for money though, you probably shouldn't be financing anything, or if you absolutely must have a new PC, get one of the cheap systems. Don't go financing a 2000 dollar machine and making your financial situation even worse.

Being Intel's Tier 1 builder, Dell has the best shot of providing a near launch system, but by looking at Intel's own roadmaps it becomes clear that there will be no where near the supply to meet demand and we all know what that does to prices.......

Don't worry - I agree completely. I'm only after the cheapest Conroe machine they'll have (which will probably be a mid-range machine.) I'll bet Intel's new secret IGP will be enough for me as well. Besides, by that time I'll be getting a nice raise at work (only a month away! EeeeeEE!) 😀

Never heard of preordering with Dell.... I'd have imagined they'd be too secretive about their new product line.

Having worked in the same industry (IBM) I know they were dead serious about not releasing any information of any kind regarding future models.

I hope things have loosened up in the 7 years that have passed since then.

I'ma call Dell and see. 😉

Dell's been pretty tight-lipped about it. None of the reps I've spoken to are willing to talk - or just don't know anything.

They don't know anything, you'll need to go to a true Dell "Engineer" to get their roadmap...that being said, they'll be available at launch.

They have a couple Conroe PC's.... high end only.

C'mon mainstream.... or a *great* discount on existing models. The 930 processor is sufficient...
