When do you move to LCD?

probably once it's no longer feasible to continue using my CRTs....and the spare CRTs I have in the basement.

When some of these happen (I'll move to LCD at work and at home at different points).
1) When I can get a decent quality 17" LCD for $50.
2) When I can get a decent quality 19" LCD for $150.
3) When I can use a wide variety of resolutions without noticible visual defects (LCDs are slowly progressing here but are still horrible).
4) When I move from a spacious house to a one room nursing home and deskspace is important (Since I'm 27, hopefully this is a long ways away).
5) When quality CRTs are no longer being made.
6) When viewing becomes perfect from all angles (work only, LCDs are finally getting really close here).
7) When LCD pictures look as good as CRT pictures.

Basically, it'll be a long time for me before I'll make the switch. The point above which is most likely to make me switch is #5. The best CRT tubes are no longer being made, so we are left with crappy CRTs like Sony.

had a 15" viewsonic LCD back in 2001

got my 2000fp in 2002 $750

and now up to dual 2001fps $600 each

now i'm not upgrading until i can get some 1920x1200 resolution displays for a reasonable price

switched over 2 years ago, for the sake of my vision. never regretted paying 460 local for my 17" lcd, though i am looking into making a 15.4" widescreen lcd with dvi input and wuxga, just gotta see price of the controller (i actually found a place that can sell me one, but dont know price yet). I will love the new screen if i can get a controller.

When I can get a 17-19" panel that can display 1600x1200, or a 20+" panel that can display more, for <£300

I've got a 15" 1600x1200 panel on my laptop, and absolutely love it. Loads of real-estate, and fonts/pictures aren't in-your-face.

I've got a rubbish 19" CRT at home running 1280x960, I wish it would do higher resolutions, but if I'm going to get a new screen, it'll be a decent LCD.

I defiantely need the deskspace that a CRT does not allow for, its getting close to upgrade time but I also want more than 1280x1024...I'm in the same boat with a 15" UXGA screen (1600x1200) on my laptop, and I don't think I could settle for any less workspace on a physically larger desktop screen, especially if I'm going to be forking over at least a few hundred for one. It sucks because there is actually a significant difference between 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, its too bad 19" LCDs aren't at least 1400x1050 (SXGA+)

Sucks though, because I've been able to play around on a few different WUXGA LCDs (1920x1200) and those are NICE, cheaper to get 2 1600x1200 LCDs though, but would be really nice to have a monitor that could also act as an HDTV and get an HDTV tuner card...need to find a bank to rob...

Bought two 19" lcds about 6 months ago, have had an lcd of one form or another for about two years.....at 1280x1024, plenty of screen space, with the use of tabbed browsing and ultra mon, don't need ultra high res, two lcds is just fine. 🙂

or when someome makes a LCD around 20in that has a native res of 1920x1200 for around 500$
also they need to get the LCDs to display reds correctly, very few do this now and the ones that do cost too much, IE the apple 23in. also better color in general so they can be used for photoediting OLEDs would be nice also

for the price of current 20in LCDs i can get a 22in CRT that does 2048x1536 @ 86Hz

GOOD LUCK!

I don't really see 20" screens with 1920x1200 for anytime around $500. If it was I might consider getting an other one 😀. I have a 23" that does 1920x1200. Another one would be SO sweet but not worth the money...

Well here is to the future and cheaper prices 😀
