When do you move to LCD?

I will move to LCD when the LCD w/ 1600 x 1200 drops below $600.
1280 x 1024 is nice but I like more real estate if I'm going to drop big $$$ on a new monitor.

Running 1280 x 1024 at work and sometimes I miss the old 21" CRT @ 1600 x 1200.

when i can get a 20in LCD that does 1600x1200 or greater for 500$
or when someome makes a LCD around 20in that has a native res of 1920x1200 for around 500$
also they need to get the LCDs to display reds correctly, very few do this now and the ones that do cost too much, IE the apple 23in. also better color in general so they can be used for photoediting OLEDs would be nice also

for the price of current 20in LCDs i can get a 22in CRT that does 2048x1536 @ 86Hz

When I can get a 21" LCD for under $500 Canadian I will do the switch...

right now it's just too expensive for me... my CRT is fine.

I bought my girlfriend a 17" LCD for Easter last year... doesnt overly impress me for the price difference.

It's already at that point, I could go buy a 2001FP right now for $599.

Last week you could have had one for $555 shipped.

made the switch a long time ago. Computer desktop space isn't as valuable to mean as actual desk top space. Running a 17" at 1280x1024 is worth it to mean to have a monitor that leaves me with enough space on my desk for keyboard / papers, and tons of other crap.

I am making that move now. I got a laptop in January, a LCD at work last month, and I felt my CRT at home was just too lacking by comparison.

My 2001FP will arrive as soon as DELL ships it...hopefully within the next week.

Ohh, you ment MONITORS ...

well i made the switch at the beginning of the summer. i have a 19" samsung 191t that i paid $620 for at the time. i love it and it is perfect for me. i won't upgrade for a LONG time.

and if you game alot and the ghosting bothers you, then you should still wait. i hardly PC game anyways so i dont care, and when i have gamed on it, i didnt notice ghosting at all, or it just didnt bother me

What he said.

I made the switch 2 years 1 month ago when I bought a Dell UltraSharp 1900FP (1280x1024, analog and DVI) for $690 shipped. At the time it was a Hot Deal since they retailed for $999.

3 year Dell warranty + 1 year VISA credit card warranty = :)

Bought a 17" 1280x1024 monitor 1.25 years ago, and I couldn't be happier, worth every penny. Yes I 'downgraded' from a 19" CRT that was usually running at 1152x864.

The 2001FP shows up at $719 (Dell.com) right now.
I meant when these monitor go below $600 without hunting for deals. When I can drop by my local BB or CC and pick one up for <$600, I'm in.

I'll make the switch when I can get a 20"+, 8-bit panel, 1920x1200 resolution, sub-10ms response time, all for $800-$1000

Cory, received your PM.

Check the forums for that site, there is a thread giving away 25% off Dell LCD coupons.

I have plenty of desk space so my 21 crt doing 1600x1200 is fine for me. I may get lcd someday, but not till the prices on something of that size are much lower, like 400

Made the switch earlier this year, got a 19" LCD, then switched to a 2001FP, I'll never go back. Running dual monitor right now with the 2001FP and a 19" CRT, and the difference is remarkable. I can't wait to get another 2001FP to match the first one.

I moved to LCD two years ago, when I got a 15" for $150. Response time of 45ms, it looks like a Van Gogh painting when I play Counter-Strike
