I'm in the market for a new video card. My problem is that I do not want another AGP card since PCI-E looks to be the future. Right now I'm running a socket 754 athlon 64 3000+ on a via k800 mobo. My vidcard is a crappy geforce 5200 ultra. See why I need a new videocard?

Okay, so all these socket 939 sli boards seem to be out before the regular s754 nf4 ultra boards. What is up with that? Also wasn't ATI supposed to have released a pci-e chipset for s754 as well? I have a couple hundred bucks to blow and they don't have what I want. It really bites. All I want is a mainstream s754 board that has pci-e. I want to extend the life of my decent a64 chip and make my future videocard purchase viable for my next upgrade. Is that too much to ask for?

I don't have a good answer, but given that AMD is phasing out Socket A and seems to be making 754 the platform for Semprons at the same time that vid-card makers are making PCIe cards for the low to mid-end of the market, I'd guess that we will see socket 754 MBs with PCIe before too long. My guess is that they won't show until after the long awaited 939 PCIe boards though.

Thanks for the reply eas. Yeah I assume everyone wants the s939 boards first, but the big money makers are the mid-low range markets. With all these pci-e midrange cards around I would think that the big board companies would be releasing these boards in a hurry. Oh well, I hope I can hold off for another month or so. If not then I might just get a geforce 6600gt agp card by then. I'd rather get the pci-e version instead of paying an extra 50 bucks for the agp version.

Whenever nForce 4 sees full availibility. The plane-jane nForce 4 will be 754 and have PCi-express.

to answer my own question. It looks like another month or so until a socket 754 mobo with pci-e hits. The inquirer reported that Epox will be one of the first to offer them and that won't be until Febuary. This really sucks. I may have to get a agp video card instead of getting a pci-e 6600gt and not getting a little mileage outta my current parts.

Soltek is going to have a PCIe motherboard for 754 soon, as it is on their web site
