When do I know I need new parts???

Kind of a simple question without much information to go on, but I'll entertain it. There would be a couple indicators to let someone know when they would "need new parts". One, if the old parts fail to work and are either broken or burned out. Two, the old parts do not allow you to do the tasks you want it to do, ie: playing certain games or running certain programs. Other than that I think you need to be a little more specific with a problem you're having before anyone can really help you out.

BTW, Welcome to AT!

Well it depends... If you want to keep in style you need new pants whenever the seasons change.
Some people don't change pants until their waist size changes, so it all depends on your preference...
Oh, that says parts.....
Well just get new parts when you can afford it.

A computer is just like a car. If the car doesn't run at all, then it's obviously time to get an entirely new one. If it's lacking in some areas, then maybe it's time to replace a part or two.

Personally, I am one of those people that is constantly upgrading. I always buy what I need, when I need it, or when the price is right. I don't think it's necessary to splurge on parts when they come out because most high-end parts go to waste by the average user.

cheapgoose- if she's your girlfriend, you can upgrade anytime (including the girlfriend!). If she's your wife, then you've got a problem... 😉
