I actually had CNN on while getting ready for work and saw that a plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center buildings. At that point they thought it was an accident. I saw the second plane fly into the other building live. I heard about the third plane crashing into the Pentagon on my way in to work. We had a TV set up in the office and everyone pretty much camped out in front of the tube and watched the news all day.

I left class and was walking past my schools university center, I noticed huge groups of people standing around the tvs. I wondered what was going on so I went in and saw on the news. Quite the shock.

Sophomore year: I had weight training at 7:15 PST in the morning. I usually get up around 6.

My mom woke me up around 6 but this time she dragged me into her room and flipped on the phone. She said that the towers were on fire and I was like hmm interesting. I thought it was a fire at first remembering that 1975 movie Towering Inferno. Then I figured that the towers are gone. You can't put out a fire like that just like in the movie. I turned the volume up and I heard it was a plane. Somehow I was reminded of the 1992 bombings.

I didn't even shower. I just washed my face, brushed my teeth and went to the breakfast table, staring at the screen the entire time. I was there for nearly an hr and got to school almost late. When I left, there was just footage from faraway of the Pentagon on fire. Reports were just quotes from eyewitnesses, and so all I could see was the WTC burning. I left for school hoping nothing more would happen, and this would at worst be like Oklahoma City.

Our PE teacher didn't even care that we weren't doing anything. I twas the first block day (90 min) and so we were just huddled in front of the radio listening to what was going on.

When I got to my Intl. Biz class they made an announcement to the whole school about what was going on. I heard the towers "fell into the sea" but I didn't understand until I saw pictures on MSNBC and CNN. All the news sites were nearly down due to bandwidth or whatever. All I could get was ABC.com to work, and I just kept refreshing the whole day through.

Once I got home, I was in front of hte TV/computer for most of the afternoon/evening. I spent the whole day talking on forums, etc.

Edit: I forgot the most important part. I woke up at like 6 exactly. As Iw as staring at the TV trying to comprehend, I saw the 2nd plane hit. The anchorman was like "So we have one tower on fire right now, wait wait no, we have two towers on fire. A second plane has just crashed into the World Trade Center." That was when I was like HOLY SH!T and that's when thoughts of 1992 came into my mind.

I was a senior in High School. I had gone in early and the planes hadn't hit yet. I had gone through my government class without any indication. Then my second class was Calculus and several classmates didn't have a first period class and were talking about something and I didn't realize what it was all about. At the point the three plane had hit. Then about 10-15 mintues into the class the principal come over the loudspeaker and told everyone that there was a tragedy in New York and but was very unspecific. My teacher in that class was pretty cool and turned on the TV to CNN and the North tower was falling within a few mintues of him turning on the TV. I spent the rest of the day in my Newspaper class and we were glued to the TV, my journalism teacher said it was "News in action".

I hit up several news sites on my laptop several times during the day and I don't know if you guys remember but CNN and ABCnews sites were getting hammered and they cut their pages down to the minimmum amount of stuff (ie graphics etc).

I was a senior in high school.

I went to class, and the guidance teacher was coming in class to talk about something, and she started it off with "despite what's going on in New York I still have to give this talk." I had no idea what she was talking about until that class was over.

I was watching it live on TV, after the first strike.

We were all thinking, " Which Dumb A$$ drove his 2 passenger plane into another building again."...it was right after a boy drove one into a building to avoid being punished...

When the second one hit... thing really got serious really fast...

Was in health class sophomore year in high school (Brooklyn Tech, which happens to be tallest building in Brooklyn) when a kid sitting next to me said to look outside at the smoke coming from the World Trade Center. Thought maybe it was a bad fire, but then after class saw the second plane hit, and shortly after the principal announced it on the loudspeaker. Only by 6th period (lunch time) did I get the full news, though there were a lot of rumours like there were 8 planes instead of 4, and 2 of them got shot down.

I was driving to work. Heard on the radio that an airplane crashed into one of the tower. My thought at the time was that a drunken pilot of a small plane crashed the plane. Only after I got to work did I realize what really happen.

I was a knob at The Citadel (freshmen), couldn't believe what was going on. Some upperclassmen let me watch the news on their tvs. My roommate was from NY and had family in the area. Crazy stuff, really hard to take in with all the stuff I was dealing with at The Citadel...

I had been at my new job for about 4 months. One of my co-workers came in around 9:30am and said Howard Stern said the WTC was on fire. Everybody thought that there was some electrical short, gas explosion, or something like that. Somebody else said they had heard a radio report about a plane hitting the Tower, but we all figured it was like a Cessna or something. My boss suggested grabbing the TV out of the conference room (a brand new 40" plasma!). We turned on the TV and got a couple different reports and then watched in horror as the second plane hit - live. There was a floorwide audible 'gasp' and then we were huddled around watching CNN for the rest of the day.

i was at work and a co-worker told me that some plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. we both assumed it was a small passenger plane.

our building was evacuated later on, since we are basically sitting on an international border crossing (Windsor / Detroit tunnel).

only when i got home later in the day did i realize the scope of the disaster.

I was a freshman in high school, had just moved to a new city and was on one of my first few days of school. At the bus stop it was dark and I was tired and miserable when a couple girls talked about bombs exploding in New York, I thought nothing of the remarks as they were giggling like idiots. Walking in the hallway towards my first period English class I overheard something about New York again and gave it a second thought. Class started in a cramped outdated classroom and my old hippie teacher Mrs. Perkins turned on the radio. The first words I remember hearing from the speakers were from Peter Jennings: 'Both towers have fallen, there is nothing left of the world trader center, it is completely destroyed.' I sat in disbelief a moment and the rest of the day teachers played the TV either exclusively or in the background of classwork.

funny you mention that.

i was in the exact same situation as you. moved to a new school, had no friends, walking around hearing about people talking about it. they either displayed it all day during class or had it in the background.

Well, I was in class, and our advisor person ran in all panicky-sounding and said, "They hit the World Trade centers." I was like, ummm.... ok? And? And she filled in the rest. We watched stuff on TV most of the rest of the day at school. I kept watching out the windows for the Chinese air force to start bombing.... riiiighhhhhttttt. That was my thought at the time; I think I had been reading Tom Clancy novels though.

I was home alone, and was getting ready to go to work, I worked at CompUSA at that time. It was a little before 10AM, and I generally turn on the TV as I'm getting ready for work, for whatever reason. Then I was presented with the images of the New York skyline, and an ungodly amount of smoke pouring out of the area. It was really so surreal, I probably had my mouth wide open, not believing what I was seeing was real. I became totally engrossed and concerned about what was going on. What was happening on TV suddenly became paramount over anything else. I was supposed to be at work @ 10AM I believe, and I finally realized what time it was around 10:25 or so, and I called in to explain that I was late because I was watching TV, and they already knew what was going on and understood. I ended up going into work, and my manager appologized for not telling me when I called, and he sent me home, since it was pretty obvious there would be very few shoppers that day. I still remember it quite clearly, was just such a shock, so unreal.

And of course I called everyone I could think of to make sure they knew about it as well. Definitely a day I'll never forget, for all the wrong reasons.

I was getting ready to head off to do some work and my wife called me from on her way to clinicals and told me to turn on CNN. It was pretty crazy.

45-60 minutes after the first hit happened. I was going to class at the time and saw a whole group surrounding the TV.
