When did the athlon 64 3300 come out?

Not uncommon for OEMs to get chips that aren't part of the "official" offerings. AMD did that back in the day with a K6-2 366MHz when the last 66MHz FSB chip was supposed to end at 333MHz. Intel has up to 2.8GHz chips on the antiquated 400MHz FSB for OEMs that want to sell machines with "X" number of GHz but still have old motherboards.

Nope, not really.

That CPU is an OEM only (HP & eMachines) CPU, actually the Paris core.
It is not a Sempr0n.
It is actually 64-bit capable, but asmentioned, it has less L2 cache.

There is more info on that CPU in a few threads around here if you look; i just thought i'd clarify since it hadn't been made clear in this thread.

the Athlon 64 3300+ is a pretty interesting product having these specs:

2.4GHZ
Paris Core
S754
256KB of LV2 Cache.

These are simply disabled Newcastle, but with their 64Bit Extensions left intact and half the cache left online. The rating is fairly justified as we have the Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4GHZ/512KB cache.

And as proven by the Sempron 3100+ vs the Athlno 64 2800+, the performance difference between 512Kb and 256Kb is fairly small.

The nice thing about those HP 810's is that they do come with an AGP slot you can make a pretty decent gaming rig out of them.

Because it's likely they are getting those 3300+ for much cheaper than they could the 3400+.

These 3300+es, which are indeed 2.4GHz chips with 256K cache and 64-bit extensions, allow AMD to sell off chips that have some defective cache, which is disabled.

the hp810n only costs $680($599after rebates) it's not likely theyre gonna put a 3400 in something that cheap.

We also carry Compaq P4 2.8 GHz 400 FSB desktops too, & i've never seen that CPU sold anywhere.

That's a common P4 that was widely available in it's time.

I saw that too, in my local Best Buy. It seems that it's an OEM-only chip. Which is no skin off my teeth, since I don't see why anyone would want such a crippled chip when better performance is only a few dollars away. And it's socket 754, so think budget. Better than a Sempron, but I still would be wary. If 64 bit is your thing, though, this could be for you.

my old employer just got a compaq with the 3300, it was clocked at 1.8 but the box said 2.4, so we returned it and they gave us $200 off or something, and then replaced all the boxes they had on display. this was at sam's club. we made the mistake of calling tech support for compaq and wound up talking about it with india.

it is default clocked at 1.8(1.2v) idle to save energy. check yuor cpuz man. it switches to 2.4@1.5v-core when it's at load. not really that much differnet from laptop chips.

Crippled? Not really, because it's been shown that L2 cache doesn't make a whole lot of performance difference on the A64 (see 3100+ vs. 2800+ benchies and ye olde NC vs. CH benchies)--it's more about clockspeed. As for it being S754, that's completely fine. For the vast majority of people (many power users included), especially those who are going to buy a prebuilt, the supposed upgradeability of 939 or the importance of it isn't worth a damn.
