When did "secretary" become "administrative assistant"?

NFS4

No Lifer
See title, and for that matter, when did "janitor" become "custodial engineer"? I'm assuming its a 90's invention, but I've been known to be wrong from time to time 🙂

For those of you that actually have a secretary, what's her/his official title?

When women got mad about it.

EDIT

I don't work for the help desk, I'm a "desktop support technician"... I didn't even ask for that title but I'll take it...

There is a difference between a secretary and an administrative assistant if you are a bureaucrat .

I was an admin assistant for a bank - I did teller stuff, CSR stuff, and whatever else needed doing...more a jack-of-all-trades than a secretary.

right about the same time garbage man became santiation engineer.

Yeah I would say 90s when people decided the contemporary titles were demeaning and we needed to create new ones with multiple words to make the position sound important.

My friend got out of school and his first job was "Senior Internet Analyst". He was a programmer.

Ever since liberals decided everyone has to "feel good" about their title.

Man, it must be nice living in a world where you can blame everything on someone else. Seriously, go to P&N and spout that shit, don't bring it here.

i'd prefer to live in a world where there is individual responsibility ... but we've moved quite far from that in the past 100 years.

Our secretaries are called administrative assistants.

my ex is an executive admin assistant (assistant to a VP) and she has a secretary. but her secretarys actual title is administrative assistant. creative titles to make people feel better about their jobs are nothing new. for a long time i was "senior programmer", yet i was the only programmer on staff. now there are 5, and im the only senior. lol.
