When did sales of Windows XP end?

Just wondering if XP is still sold in any form new? I have googled and read news items stating that June 30 2008 was the end date for new sales of XP. But that might be stale.

I do know of a person in another country who bought a PC new in December and it came with XP, but the shop may have had an Enterprise version and was able to install it on the new PC assuming sales of boxed XP are not sold anymore.

Working from memory here. Microsoft just made some changes.

Distributors can order OEM XP until Jan 31, while those deliveries can be stretched out until, I believe, May 30, 2009. Builders of "Netbook" computers can still order XP until the next version of Windows is released.

As far as I know, the offer to downgrade OEM Vista (Business and Ultimate) still stands. Buy one of those OEM versions and you can install XP Professional for free instead.

$90? lol, are they insane?
see, this is why i wish apple would open up OSX, leopard is only $129

$90 is a bargain for software that makes our computer do everything else.

That's absolutely right. Both O/Ss have restrictions, and if you can live with Ubuntu's, it's the deal of the century. I run that on a couple of boxes, and for my needs on those boxes it's just about perfect. It's not as good a deal on my primary rig, so $100 for Windows is what it takes. That's less than the cost of 2 AAA games, and I get much more use out of Windows over the long term.

There is no 'end of sales' date for consumers. June 2008 was the end-date for shipments of retail versions to the distribution channel and for royalty OEMs to ship Windows XP on a royalty basis. OEMs are free to ship OEM System Builder versions or perform the downgrade to Windows XP Professional on behalf of customers who are entitled to downgrade rights from OEM Vista Ultimate and Business editions through (IIRC) May 2009. January 31, 2009 is the end-date for authorized distributors and system builders to purchase OEM System Builder versions, but they can take delivery through May 2009. As long as there is an existing supply of retail or OEM System Builder versions, consumers can buy it.

Builders of "Netbook" computers can still order XP until the next version of Windows is released.
Only Royalty OEMs will be able to ship Windows XP Home on netbooks and nettops until 2010.
