When did people start selling **links** on ebay?

Because they can, simple as that, idiots will buy anything.

<edit> I mean imagine this, you have a Geforce 3 for sale. Why just sell the Geforce 3 for 300 bucks, when you can sell a link to your geforce 3 for 30 bucks before you sell the actual geforce 3?

It's just another scam-artist looking for the sucker born last night.

when people realized that although some users are smart enough to navigate to ebay, they are unable to navigate to google and do a search. wow I can make some money off of those idiots. Thats how it started.

I don't actually think people realize they're bidding on the link. Most people think they are bidding on the item itself. They see a deal and don't read the auction. Mistake number one with internet commerce. Not knowing what you just bought.

And I've never understood the fascination with buying stuff you can find free on the internet....yet people do it all the time.

many ppl on ebay are idiots... i tried to sell a link to Dell's GeForce 3 deal a couple of days ago but they ended it early so i canceled it... i posted in the title and ALL OVER the auction that it was just a link and morons bid up to about $50 for it...

i've seen people bid on gift certificates for higher than their face value before shipping!

Gee, how much would a link to Pricewatch be worth?

This one of the things I like about ebay, you are on your own, it is very hard to get a "good" deal there because there are so many idiots with more dollars then sense. (Say that out loud, it sounds better then it reads!)

I was having a coherent thought a minute ago. I wonder what that was worth? Maybe I should post a price check.

<< Guess search engines havent been found yet for some people >>

Oh no, they know they exist. How do you think they go to a website? They type www.anandtech.com into a search engine. I would say it's safe to bet 6 out of 10 new internet users do this. It got so bad, we have two search boxes on our users home page, one for normal searching, and one where you can type in a URL and it will take you to the site

It's just another case of people bidding too high on things they could get cheaper (or in this case, free) otherwise.

What about all those people selling computer goods that you could get at Newegg for cheaper? Are they also scam artists?
