When did nurses switch from the white outfit to scrubs?

My mom switched in the late '80s. They went from white uniforms to pastel uniforms to scrubs. She worked in nursing homes and home care. I think they kept the uniforms longer in the nursing homes because the patients were used to it.

It always occurred to me that white was bad for something which probably gets stained in blood on a frequent basis.

70's

I've worked in hospitals for over 20 years and never seen the whites.

Evidently my wife worked with an older nurse who still wore them until quite recently when she retired. I think most places you can still wear them if you really want to, but most nurses seemed like they happily switched over to scrubs because they're more comfortable. Some hospitals even have what's basically a 'scrubs vending machine' that dispenses a clean set at the start of each shift so you don't even need to launder them yourself.

Thank goodness they got rid of those stupid hats a few decades ago.

And when did some nurses get so damn cute? OMG! I was in the ER and I saw this blonde skinny thing sitting there about my age and I so wanted to feel her. Ohhhh.

Lots of hospitals have stopped allowing choice of color on scrubs and now enforce a color by position/department so people can easily and quickly be identified.

If they have blood on their uniform they should really be changing out of it most ricky tick, damn sure before seeing another patient who the blood didn't come from.

I think the white uniforms should have stayed. The scrubs are so ugly.

Americans are too concerned with sexual harassment. In Russia, many an old, sick, dying man would rise from the bed again, if a young nurse let him touch her leg...

Don't get me wrong. It's not like this happened often, and it's not like girls were generally ok with it. It's just that if/when it DID happen, it was the event of a lifetime for some men.

Women are actually capable of saving lives by doing virtually nothing. They are just not always willing to.

I fucking hate wearing scrubs.

When I went to the mental health hospital I was given scrubs to wear and they were pretty comfortable. They have another that is green, but they didn't have my size so I was given blue scrubs.

I think you have to wear them when your significant other is in labor as well.

It's like trying to work in pyjamas! And the pockets are really rubbish! You spend most of your time picking up all your crap that keeps falling out of them.
Plus if you aren't wearing "controlling" underwear then everything flaps around alarmingly!
