When did IE lose the ability to save an unnmodified image?

I struggled to view a small image of a particular product from Indonesia because it just would not finish loading due to the remote server. I had it open and loading in a couple Firefox tabs when it was clear that each tab was not opening a new download session with the server so I opened IE9 and pasted the URL in. I ran into the same problem, so I let it continue trying to load while I went about my other business. The next day, I see that it finished and I can view the full image at last, but I can't save it! The URL clearly says it is a JPEG but my only save options are PNG and BMP. I know I've had problems with IE automatically converting saved images in years past if I weren't careful about my filetype settings, but now I clearly don't have the option! What gives? Am I going to have to fish it out of my Temp Inet Files?! I can't use drag/drop or anything either. Obviously, as difficult as it was to obtain such a small image, I don't want to convert formats and degrade the image any further before I share it with interested parties.

*sigh* Trying it in FF again.

You could always get a win32 build of wget and use that.

Still means starting over in my attempt to get something that I already got and which is right there. 🙁 It took a lot of effort to get it to download correctly even once and, even then, I only found it a day later after resuming from hibernate when it had continued loading for hours before. Even so, I have obtained it and I should use WGET for the future. Thanks.

I still have to wonder why my Temp Inet Files were over 500MB when the limit is set to 250MB. What wasn't it deleting old stuff? "Full" temp inet files isn't the cause of the problem, it is indicative of another problem. I wonder why MS doesn't address THAT in their KB about the image saving problem.

- Image loaded instantly for me (Google Chrome)
- Google Chrome defaults to JPG when I right-click and save
- IE9 on home PC defaults to JPG when I right-click and save
- *shrug*

I loaded the image with IE6 (Using MyIE2) and it is recognised correctly (As a JPG)

When i right click the image and choose 'save picture as' i have 2 options (As a JPG (default) or bitmap image)

Slow page loading though...
