When did gmail notifications start working correctly?

One gripe that I've always had with Android is that the Gmail notifications didn't automatically clear if you read the email from your PC as it did with blackberries. You always had to manually clear the notification. I just noticed that the light now stops blinking and the notification disappears when I read the email from my PC.

Is this a feature of Jellybean, an update to the gmail app, or a new feature of lightflow?

I've never experienced that issue.
Not on Gingerbread or ICS.

If this was an issue on Froyo or earlier Android builds, I don't have a clue about since I started using Android with Gingerbread.

This feature has worked properly since at least February 2010.

Weird, I swear it never worked that way on my OG Droid running GB or my GNex until this week. I remember googling it several times during the past few years looking for a work around. Is there a setting that controls it?

I never had to change a setting. It's not completely instant but within a minute or so of checking Gmail on your pc the notification should go away on your phone.

I use IMAP + Outlook and never had problem you mentioned.

This is really strange. I am referring to the behavior of gmail only. You guys must think I'm nuts but I'm 100% sure that the notifications did not clear in the past after reading the mail on the desktop.

might just have been lucky. The gmail syncs on a timer I think. I have noticed this as well.

I'm pretty sure this has been working for me on stock CM7 and CM9 for some time now. I know this because I have BLN notifications on my phone and it causes wakelocks, so if I read them from my PC they get cleared.

Now the thing you might want to watch out for is using a 3rd party app? You mentioned LightFlow but I believe Lightflow can cope with gmail notifications being nullified due to PC reading... It doesn't seem to work for other apps though like TouchDown which I use for exchange mail.

My Droid Incredible used to behave that way, and yes it's really annoying. It's been over a year at least IIRC since they fixed it.

Google Voice still behaves this way, and I really wish they'd fix that.
