It's better than "Ice Road Truckers".

What happens this episode? Well some ice makes creaking sounds and the truck slides about a foot off the "road" near the end of the show.... DUN DUN DUN!

Fine. I guess it's time to enlighten the masses.

So, at some point Discovery Channel became TOO encompassing. People loved the reality survival shows, they loved Wings, they loved the historical documentaries, the science shows. There wasn't a way to keep them all going at the same time and even remotely make everybody happy.

SOOOOOO you now have Discovery Channel which has leveraged the strength of the DC name to serve as a more traditional cable network and host their marquis shows like Dirty jobs, Deadliest Catch, MvW, and Mythbusters, etc; BUT you now also have SIX NEW channels.....The Learning Channel, The Science Channel, Military Channel, Discovery Health, Animal Planet, and HD Theater. Imagine that.

Anyway, here's today's lineup.

(30 minutes) How It's Made
(30 minutes) How Do They Do It?
(30 minutes) Cash Cab
(30 minutes) Cash Cab
(60 minutes) Deadliest Catch
(30 minutes) How It's Made
(30 minutes) How It's Made
(60 minutes) Mostly True Stories: Urban Legends Revealed
(60 minutes) A Haunting
(60 minutes) A Haunting
(60 minutes) Deadliest Catch
(60 minutes) It Takes a Thief
(30 minutes) Cash Cab
(30 minutes) Cash Cab
(60 minutes) Deadliest Catch
(60 minutes) Dirty Jobs
(60 minutes) Dirty Jobs
(60 minutes) Verminators
(30 minutes) How It's Made
(30 minutes) How It's Made

Since Deadliest Catch just wrapped up, they've run a couple marathons to recap the season. Clearly the OP caught one of these, formed a strong opinion, then felt the need to post here.

more than 7 years ago, or so. Discovery stopped doing science programming to increase advertising revenue. same with History Channel. Now it's IceRoad Truckers/Loggers/Gun channel.

Oh, and AMC used to actually show American Movie Classics. Now they show crap, 24/7. Same with A&E. There's a direct correlation between increased profits and declining standards in quality programming, due to the overwhelming majority of individuals with piss-poor taste :p

LOL. no shit. GF and I were into the first few episodes of that show the first season. But then you realize, every god damn episode spends about 10 minutes with the same freaking graphic about the water under the ice creating waves as the trucks drive along. The faster you drive, the more waves, which leads to a big-ass hole in front of you.

then the drawn-out sequences of ice creaking. EVERY FREAKING SHOW. No way they could make more than one season, I thought. well, they proved me wrong (well, not really, b/c I imagine that I have more content in my penis than another season of this show would--and that's not a compliment, in the least ;))

This would be the MTV effect - reality drama shows get more ratings and attract a broader audince (mainly young men & women). Watch the Olympics during prime time this summer and you will notice its a drama laden personal story segment of 30-minutes with 5-minutes of actuals sports. Researchers foound that women like to connect emotionally and there drama laden segements keep women hooked. Men just can't help themselves as they just want to see that burly dude throw the hammer.

Wild West Tech on the History channel is still a favorite as well as Modern Marvels.

Just an observation. Posting one day's lineup isn't the same as an entire weeks. I was just commenting on the fact that deadliest catch seems to be on all the time now.

Yeah, they always run "After The Catch" midway through the season.

Go look at the whole week. It all looks the same.
I was just commenting on the fact that deadliest catch seems to be on all the time now.

You turned it on and caught a few episodes in a row and thought you'd hop on the leading edge of the anti-Dealiest Catch swell fed by a second consecutive pretty mundane season. Well, not on my watch, son.

I was wondering this myself, it seems to be the only show on. I could usually turn to Discovery and watch nature crap for hours.

But these fishermen, they don't have real problems. If I'm watching reality tv it has to have teenage girls trying to plan their birthday parties.

And even the nature shows are irritating.

OMG will the lion survive the night? STAY TUNED!!!!!!!

.....and we're back. Yes, the lion survived the night just fine, because all the drama and tension was entirely artificial. Did you buy anything from our advertisers yet?
