When CPU downclocks, does ram also downclock?

So when the CPU multiplier is 16x @ idle, what happens to the memory, does the divider increase or decrease? I'm not familiar with the new way memory works on these new intels. 😱
 
AMD's cool & quiet can downclock the RAM, I noticed my APU doesn't do it but I remember my Phenom 9600b did.

Intel stays the same. I guess RAM doesn't have much effect on heat and power consumption.


Boris - you had like 500 posts 4 days ago, how come you have 3000 posts now? And your join date is now 2010 but your first post was in May. LOL

I don't understand how the intel fsb works then. How can they keep perfect 2133 constantly while it's cpu multiplier goes up and down.

Do they have a dynamic ram divider that can clock to whatever?


They merged my old account from way way back. 😀
I've only recently came back because of upgrading my cpu and I had questions.

Not sure about the dynamic ram divider but I remember my AMD throttling the ram down to 333mhz at idle along with the CPU. I remember back in the A64 days that C&C used to make your CPU unstable when you overclocked no matter what so that maybe why they stopped throttling RAM. Just a guess.

Are you still the same guy? You were holding forth over the last several weeks about CPU temperature and voltage like you were "in the thick of it."

You must be a veteran over-clocker yet to feel comfortable with the Quick Path Interconnect or QPI.

Yeah -- the world keeps changing on us, that's for sure!
 
Since nothing is going to happen with the CPU at 1600 ( unless you set the multiplier at 1600 ), what difference does it make what speed the memory is running at ?

Certainly, you are right about this point. But as I had assumed since last year and as someone says in this thread -- "nothing changes."

Now, I'll be compelled to open some monitoring software and check again. But I'm still pretty sure . . . "nothing changes."
