When checking your credit report, why don't they give you a score?

I was curious about my credit, and using annualcreditreport.com I wanted to check it. Why don't any of the three agencys give you an actual number? They only seem to give you a report?

the FTC requires one free report from all three agencys per year, does this no involve the number, only your credit inquiry report?

report not score

no, they are different companies

the "Score" is from myFICO.com , they are a different company that the 3 big/main credit reporting companies, Experian, Equifax and Trans Union

you can get one free credit report from those 3 each year through annualcreditreport.com
that has nothing to do with your credit score, if you want that, go to myFICO.com

Experian/Equifax/TransUnion have scores as well.

If you want to check your credit score (and don't flip out because you have to pay for it) I would recommend MyFico.com

They also have some coupon codes, Google them.

myFICO simply reports the scores that Experian/Equifax/Trans Union issue. The only reason the credit report is free is that the government forces them to give it out once a year. Since the government doesn't force them to give out the score, you have to pay for it. A number of places pull your score from the major credit reporting agencies and report it to you, but myFICO is one of the more popular ones because it's established, not that expensive, and doesn't require any additional commitment, like purchasing a "credit monitoring service" would.

If you purchase a report at truecredit.com, there is an add-on option to get the 3 scores from each of these. Surprisingly, they can vary quite a bit. Equifax had something on me from like 6 years ago that neither of the other agencies had. I'm resolving it now.

i think it's diff scores. fico is the one companies use. all other scores from other credit reporting companies are Fako scores

I thought that you could be a total cheapass and get your free credit report due to the government mandate thing, then go to myfico.com and sign up but cancel right away. It was some sort of trial thing, so you could sign up and get the score, then make sure to cancel before the autobilling thing. This not true?

Kind of curious what my score might be, although I don't know if I'd even have one.
