When buying something from fs/ft how long do you wait for a PM response?

So I've already sent the seller some $$$ for an n52 speedpad. It's not a lot of money by any stretch but hey, ya know, money is money. The last I heard from him, he was "shipping out tomorrow."

That was two days ago and he's yet to respond to my pm's about - anything, really. It's kind of irritating when you see that a user has logged on and ignored your PMs, particularly when your money is involved.

3-5 business days are normal for shipping. He may have taken off for a few days after sending the item. I wouldn't be too incredibly worried yet.

That being said, if I had sold an item and was going on vacation for a few days I would let the buyer know I would be gone so he didn't worry that I wasn't responding.

Wait.

What is the WHOLE time line here... include:

Date/time that the deal seemed mutually agreed upon
Date/time that you paid
Date/time he was supposed to ship

Because if you made a deal on Monday night and paid immediately there is a chance he got tied up and wasn't able to ship but should be able to do it today, it's not really anything to get yourself in a bunch over. I know sometimes I was a day or to late on my expectation of when I could get an item to the post office. Sometimes I plan to go on my lunch break but end up having to skip my lunch and I don't get out until after the post office is closed. It happens.

If you made the deal and paid like... over a week ago and this is just the latest PM claiming he's shipping the item and not doing it then it's time to light a fire.

Either way, it's really not acceptable to ignore a PM, but sometimes you just wanna wait to reply until you have better news.

First and foremost, check to see if he has made any other posts in other places and see if he's trying to make other deals or spending time BSing in other forums.

If he has logged on and not answered your PM(s), that is rude.
Reflect his poor communication when you leave him Heat.

Down boy :) It's not important who it is at the moment. It's just a question so far - I'm not really worried or anything like that but I like to solicit advice from those who may be more experienced than I am.

And no, that's not it =)

EDIT:

Although I DID want to buy from that guy originally - never heard back so I didn't.

Heh, I wonder if that guy bought that n52 for $5 AR from NewEgg like I did last year.

But anyways, on topic, I do get a bit irritated if the person signs on, and then signs off without answering their PM. If the person only signs on once every few days, well ok, some people don't have time to be online constantly -- fair enough. But ignoring someone that has sent you money for something that's not been delivered just seems rude. Me personally, I try to reply to any FS/FT PMs asap. Bad form otherwise, imho.

Wish I would've got in on that. The only n52 outside of the internet I've been able to find these days is the last one they have at a B&M store locally. It's in a beat up box and it's going for 39.99.

He should respond if he logs on and has PM, but on the other hand, if he already sent you the date he would ship, he may have considered the deal "done" and wasn't looking to receive any new PM's on the matter. The "new PM" indicator isn't exactly obvious on these boards.

yeah, it's frustrating. I've missed PM's by a day or two because of that.

Well, maybe I'll give it another day. Like I said, it's not a lot of money but it's the principle. When I'm selling someone something, I always make sure to respond to their questions asap.

indeed. if he said hes sent it, id give things a week before i got worried, and if you get it and he still doesnt get back to you, mention it with positive heatware.

Someone should make a greasemonkey script to make it more obvious, like red and flashing.

You can check his profile and see if in this time frame if he has even checked into anand, and if so, hes being a dick for lack of better words. But also it may be not that much money, but if he is a troll and did this 10-15 times to other people that little bit of, "oh well call it lesson learned" adds up to a shit load.

But not saying that person did this, dont know them, but if he has not checked in, somethings wrong, and if he has, he is sure to have seen your pm, and then it comes down to him being a dick, hasnt sent it out yet, and is too embarrassed to bother telling you he messed up and reply to your PM.

I wish anand had a way to know if a pm was read like some other forums do, that way once he opens it, you get a pm telling you when it was read and then there wouldn't be no discussion on if that person got and read what you sent them.

Welp, nothing yet. So if I don't hear by the end of tomorrow, I'll take the next step.

It's only been 3 days, give it a week. It takes time for packages to arrive.

Lately across the boards PM response to sale threads has been crappy.

I recently was looking for a 8800GTX...almost 90% didn't reply to the original PM until I already had the one I bought installed and running.

Many never replied, yet continued to bump.

Some stated their PM box was full, others they 'missed' it.

The guy I did end up buying from had GREAT communication.
