When buying a new car. Do you consider the "Hyundai's & Kia's" etc..?

Seems they have come a long way since the 80's (and now Hyundai owns Kia so they are basically the same car). I haven't bought a brand new car in a while, but I see alot of new Hyundai's, Kia's, Suzuki's, etc in the company parking lot.

I remember when Datsun (Nissan) & Toyota were the "cheap" cars and now look whats happened.... Do you think the Korean cars (Hyundai, etc...) will be a "respectable" car in the future? (or is it already here?)







 
I wanted to buy Hyundai, but my wife wouldn't let me...
So I bought a vw last year..

My next car would be either Honda or Hyundai..but no Kia..
 
I would only consider a Hyundai Elantra if I wanted an entry level best bang for your buck car.

Then I would wait until the end of the year and get a brand new 2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS automatic sedan for around $10,500 out the door.
 
I had a rental Hyundai Sonata (their Accord-level car) for few days in Orlando. It was quiet, smooth, well-appointed, and a decent radio. I was really surprised at the build quality. The shifts were a bit harsh but it was a rental with just under 10k miles.

Plus, they have long warranties that cover about everything for the length of your loan. I would consider one, sure.
 
i would only consider the hyundai tiburon. my neighbor had one, he had transmission problems once, took it in, they said hed have it next day. he asked how they could guarentee that. they said they just take it out, put a new one in, and send the old one back to get tests done to see what happened. i call that good service.

plus the warranty, and the price is nice too.

I see alot of the new Santa Fe's in the parking lot, along with Sonata's. Supposedly their new V6 is solid, but again I'm speaking from hearsay rather than true experience. Just wondering if they are being dissed from past experience rather than real-world modern construction.

Been wondering the same thing. Some of the body styles look pretty good and it seems a lot of people have them but I cannot get over the stigma attached to them. Their prices are so tempting, though.
 
I really like the New Sonata. I'd consider purchasing it if I was in the market for a mid sized sedan.

The only kia I would consider is the Sorrento. I just like the way it looks and it a good bang for the buck vehicle I think.
 
Sure, I'd get a Hyundai... After spending 11 years as an auto mechanic, I don't see how they are worse than any other manufacturer.

Obviously they aren't a BMW, Mercedes, or Dodge... But you pretty much get what you pay for.

But no, I've never really given the Hyundies or Kias much weight at all. If I'm going to spend bottom-dollar, I'll either get a good used car, or a GM-made one that I know is crap and costs a few $K less.

Nope, but then again I never buy new cars, it just seems like a big waste of money to me. (finanacing charges, depreciation, dealer fees, more insurance, etc)
 
i test drove one recently because people said they had improved. well i had never driven one before, so who knows, maybe they did improve, but there just wasn't something i'd look at twice.
 
If a company needs to give a 10 year warranty for its cars that should send off warning lights right away...

Also, if they sell the warranty as a selling point to you rather than performance or anything else, more warning lights should go off.

Ha, I had a Sonata rental for a week and I was quite un-impressed. You really had to slam the trunk (like 3 times really hard) to get it to latch. The engine was very noisy and I'm not talking about exhaust noise, it was more like valve clatter and driveline noises. The transmission shifts were very abrupt, not at all smooth. This car had 2,000 miles on it.

The long warranty is a sales gimmick used to promote an image of 'quality'. Chrysler did this back in the late 80s, VW did it in the early 90s...this is nothing new and does NOT mean they have a good reputation in fact it quite often means just the opposite.

I would not consider one. They have a long way to go before they reach Honda quality levels.
