Wow. It's both disturbing and frightening what extremes people will go to. About 3 or 4 pics down you will come across a blond man with absolutely no knees...at least it seems.

What I want to know is, if these kinds of people start to 'detox', drop their steroid habit, what happens to all that muscle? Does it just atrophy? I don't think it just 'goes away' either.

also don't some of them inject something into the muscles to make it look bigger?

Yes, that would be synthol. Only the real freaks use that stuff.

Whether or not one keeps the muscle gained by a cycle of steroids depends on a number of factors:

1. quality of diet and workouts following the cycle
2. amount of muscle gained relative to genetic limits
3. proper use of PCT drugs
4. length of cycle and the particular drugs/dosages used

I think it's pretty safe to say that all of the pro bodybuilders have used drugs to go far beyond their natural genetic potentials. Some likely stay on steriods year round, while others may come off for short periods of time. If they were to come off for an extended period of time, I would guess they would lose a noticeable amount of muscle mass, regardless of how well they continued to train and eat.

It turns to blubber. Most of them won't live long enough for that to be a problem. They're killing themselves.

Eurgh. People have some weird addictions and obsessions, but usually they don't make you look so incredibly unattractive.

Some of those pics look so over-the-top they look fake, unfortunately I think they are all too real.

See my post above. It depends. Arnold was a huge juicer back when he won his Mr. Olympia titles, and he seems to be doing alright now at the age of 60.

This is just as bad a extreme obesity- a huge quantity of unusable mass, major stress on the heart.

For a congenital defect passed down from his mother (or so I thought)...
