When asked for a thread to be deleted by OP,

Why is it never deleted, only locked? Even if there are no replies. Just curious.

There are likely mod rules in place for deletes, which are actually just marking posts/threads invisible. If it can be locked and have the same effect that's their first option.

Oh no you didn't! There are invisible threads? You're talking about me, aren't you?
This is a very large public forum. Legal requests are likely made on a somewhat regular basis. Maintaining data >>> hard deletes. Marking a thread/posts by user as invisible and just storing the data in the DB just like every other post isn't really that taxing on the system.

Locking a thread vs. marking invisible becomes and easy decision at that point. Lock everything unless required.

edit: I didn't even touch on invisible sub-forums named IronWing threads here. :sneaky:

Making threads invisible isn't the term we use. We really just move a thread to another area of the forum that only the mods see.

Mostly, this comprises of spam threads. I am guessing 98-99% spam threads.

Threads are not deleted. They are just moved from regular forum view, and not all mods are even capable of moving threads.

In answer to the OPs question, if an OP asks for a thread to be deleted (moved), it's possible if there were not posts in the thread. If someone creates a thread, has multiple replies and he asks for it to be deleted, we won't do that. We will however lock the thread if the OP requests it. I am guessing the OP was asking about this thread:

I just went and looked at the last 8 pages of of binned/moved threads, (over 240) and only a few weren't spam.

One was a thread where the OP asked to delete it (no posts). Another was a begging thread. One more was about wholesale selling of seafood.

These are the types of threads that may be moved by the mods.

So, is it impossible to delete a thread then?

And yes esquared, that was the thread that inspired this thread, although I have seen it many times in the past and was always somewhat curious.

Why does these two guys never show up? Zap, ElFenix

I feel ignored since I have never got an infarction from them but others. LOL!

What, are you bragging about how many infarction's you've got?. Anyone can type anything behind a keyboard, if you can't debate something with someone without incurring infarction's then it's time to look at yourself and how to find a different way to express your opinions without getting yourself in trouble, it can be done you know..
