When are you switching P4 ratios?

Ok, im not gonna give up on my system yet. I really want this 2.8@3.2 and I know it can be done, but looks like I need to dig to the "core" to get this sucker going. Im curious when did you gentlemen running the P4C800-E or P4C800 have to switch from 1: to 5:4? Reason I ask this cause when I had mine at 220fsb, everything was fine for awhile. Then UT2k3 dumped on me and gave me a strange error, and it woudn't load back up until I rebooted. Then after I got done playing GTA Vice city for awhile and left the computer, I came back to a black screen with some message like "Attempt to load OS failed, Please have DISK with OS" or something around those lines. Needless to say I freaked and went back to 215fsb and so far, no probs. If were able to go higher on 1:1, what settings are your machines running at? I have a bad feeling of going higher then 2.75v, Corsair just doesn't recommend it, and I really don't wanna fry $320 worth of RAM from being cocky.

I had the memory running at 3-4-4-8 (3700 Corsair refuses to go lower) on 2.75vdimm, left the CPU core default, USB legacy support off, HT on. Im also curious of what you guys have found for changing the BIOS versions on the board. Im on 1007 atm, and im just want make totally sure there hasn't been problem as a result of going to 1008, 1009 and 1010, I really hate for my system to start freaking out as a result of flashing to a less stable BIOS.

Well, I run the P4P800, not the P4C. Sounds like you need to bump the VCORE slightly. Have you performed any stability testing at lower FSB? You also might be seeing issues with your video or sound, so some Prime95 testing would help to tell what's going on. Did you get any error codes? How are your temps when you crash? How is your PSU? I went through this recently. I had problems with T2 Extreme, so I kept dropping my FSB, but when I got to the point I used to run at and I know it should work, I realized it's my Audigy 2 that's the culprit and not the FSB. Good luck in tracking the issue. You should be able to hit 220FSB on a 1:1 with that memory.

Temps fine, Antec 430 PSU is fine. I should go check the PCI AGP lock and I put Performance mode to standard. But now im kinda afraid to even try it again, less to corrupt my data on the HDD as a result, That error message was scary.

You are going to get your best performance from 1:1 if your crank the the fsb up to 250 and run 5:4 compare the results....

Not immpossible, you just have to spend more on ram. in my opinion, it isnt relly worth it right yet. I run 5:4 with a 2.6@3.3. KHX3000@404 2522

What are the voltages on your CPU and RAM? I got the same chip and RAM but Abit IS7.
Thanks.

Not necessarily true. Running 1:1 @ 200 and 5:4 at 250, the 5:4 wins hands down. Now that I have some good memory and am able to run at 250 1:1 of course that is faster but it came at a price. I should have saved the money since it really isn't noticeable. I would give up the 1:1 and go for the FSB any day.

Think this 1 gig 3700 will handle 2.85v? Damn, I wish I knew what was causing prob on 1:1 ratio at 220fsb. I like to keep that mem bandwith

Hey fellas, are you running the ram in dual channel ? Do modern games (dx9) like UT2k3, will Rock, Serious Sam benefit more from running in dual channel ? I have 3 different sticks and can't get the higher ratios when running in dc.

That is AMD thinking and does not apply on Pentium at all for the simple reason that the bus is so high. You'll get the best scores depending on many things but running asynchronuously does not impede that. The fact is that you can easily get better scores on 5:4 if your bus is higher. And this is particularly true for dual channel since in case of Pentium that truly means "two times" unlike AMD where it is more like 3-4%.
So you need to find your own setup's soft spot and of course depends on memory so if you have memory that can follow the bus 1:1, lucky you.
