Well, I finally got my lame 2600+ system stable, now I see my 9700np is pushed to its limit and I need a better card. I don't want to upgrade if the new cards aren't that far off. AGP of course.

I am now on a ASrock K7Upgrade-880 mobo, so at least I will be able to upgrade to a 754 (yes I know it's dead) when I feel like it.

So you're gonna buy an A64 along with a video card? Because if you're sticking with the 2600+ then you'll be CPU limited for sure with next gen cards. As for when they're coming out, nobody knows for sure, some people say later this month, others say in the fall. I don't know.

Well, I know I am maxed out now because I did some benchmarking and went from a 200FSB to 220FSB with virtually no difference, so any new card I get will be an improvement.

Are you waiting for the 6000's to drop in price? Anything higher than a 6600GT, you'll be pushing the limits of your cpu/mobo.

From what I heard Nvidia will be "releasing" their new 7000's in the next 2-3 weeks. Prices will drop on the 6000's 4-8 weeks after their release.

There's no point in me going "less", because I will be upgrading my CPU eventually, and the 754 A64 chipset is pretty cheap (and dead) as it is.

So I wouldn't be averse to just buying whatever the new chipset card is, and then upgrading to a Clawhammer or something later on.

Look to the sun, the earth, the moon, the stars, and time will tell you when the next monster is coming.

I'm just asking what do you want? Current generation or next generation?

Latest rumors are June 21st launch for nVidia GTX, July 26th launch for ATI whatever. nV may be saving the Ultra to launch near ATI's whatever. So, availability maybe in six to eight weeks for the first next-gen parts.

nvidia's card should be paper launched this month...no one is still really sure about ATI...rumors are that the card is delayed until Sept
