when are AMD's next price cuts?

Unlike Intel, AMD doesn't publicly annouce the price cuts months in advance. Usually AMD cuts prices within a couple of weeks (either way) of Intel's price cuts. Since Intel is cutting on the 26th, I'd say AMD is likely to cut within the next 4 weeks. Unfortunately your guess is just as good as mine as to exactly when it will occur.

Unless you are looking at a high end Opteron or A64-FX chip, I'd say the prices on AMD chips are already lower than they need to be. But I'm with dullard, I don't know either.

I don't think you'll see it falling much at all - even after months or years (unless you go used). AMD is moving to a higher price level and sub $75 processors will be going the way of the dodo in my opinion.

Umm dont count on any Opteron or Athlon 64 price cuts this quarter. They likely wont have any until Q1-04.

We've already seen tons of processors dip under the $100 price point: starting with the 1700+ back then and working the way through the 2000+ models, and finally a Barton 2500+ dipping under the cost. I saw an estimated CPU cost chart at THG, and after the assembly, manufacturing, pins, etc, I don't think they can make even $10 on a 1700+ or $50 on a 2500+. That's just a guess though.

$90 is way to cheap for that processor, IMHO. AMD needs to learn to sell their CPUs for what they are worth! That's how you stay in business. Having said that, I'm glad they are that cheap, cuz I am too!

I was kind of hoping the Barton 3000 fsb400 would drop a bit in price. I would consider buying and OC the 2500 Barton, but I usually end up getting a chip that doesn't OC very well and don't want to chance it. But my guess is that AMD will wait, knowing that the upgraders are stuck. Getting a AMD 64 or Pentium would involve getting a new MB so it might be a few months. I figure some time after the holidays around the time of the Doom3/HL2 release. -Wes
