When a company screws up like this, THEY need to eat it

Well she knew that she was not entitled to the money. That is why she moved it to another account. It isn't her fault that the mistake was made, but she is fully responsible for what happened after it was deposited.

She thought she was going to pull a fast one. I'm glad they are holding her accountable. Pay it back and go to jail.

I think it's because she transferred the money out of the direct deposit account almost immediately, and then started spending it. So when the error was supposed to be corrected, the money wasn't there anymore...

If she had just reported the error and not touched it, I doubt anything would've happened to her.

This is FYGM territory, and not surprising in the least. It's what we preach in America.

Because under US law if someone makes a mistake and you end up with property that you know for sure isn’t yours it is a crime for you to keep it.

Imagine dropping your wallet at someone’s house and them going on a shopping spree with all your money because after all, you left your wallet there - clearly you intended it as a gift.
 
If a bank mistakenly deposits 1 Million into your account you must immediately provide that bank with a form for them to fill out to withdraw that clearly documents the various fees they will need to pay for the transaction.
Establish a reasonable closing costs plus whatever % is appropriate.

Return the after they pay a 100K in fees and fill out all appropriate documents.
It's the honest thing to do
 
If you accidently fudged a number paying a company you'd expect them to return the extra money right? Goes both ways, this has been the law a long time you don't move the money to another account and spend it. Just like its a crime to take money off the road if a brinks trucks spills money out of it.

Someone else screwed up (low level teller-type job presumably) and fat fingered one number when entering an account number - so the person who did it should be fired and the person should keep the money.

Sound logic there broceritops.

She obviously tried to pull a fast one, thinking it wouldn't come back to bite her? Bad decision cost her the job, not somebody else's fuck up.

She moved the funds from the account immediately; it was obviously to try to prevent it being drawn back out of the account. I'm pretty sure she knew what she was trying to pull, and hoping that somehow, against all odds...she'd be able to keep it.

The action on her part was no "accident", it was fully intentional. She fucked up and got caught red-handed.

It's not her responsibility to prove if the money was in error or a gift see JSJL for evidence). If anything, she should have not been jailed. It accomplishes nothing. It does not get the money back. What's the point?

This achieves nothing. Now she is jobless and a felon? Come on guys. Think. Smdh.
