WHEATHER RESISTANT CAT 5 CABLE???

I've got all my network cable in my house passing out side and running along the house.

Why would you need to run a network cable for a company outside? are they two buildings? I sugest running 4 or 5 network cables an only using one there for if one goes down you can use the other.

Have all mine running outside in pvc. Really nothing else you can do if you don't want to worry about it and redo it every few years. And I second the idea of running a few lines at the same time.

I bought underground phone cable from a contact with my local Bell. I don't know the specs on it, but it has 5 pair in some kind of gel surrounded by metal (copper?) tubing, all encased in a heavy black (plastic?) sheath. This connection is between 1100 and 1200 feet and has worked for 3-4 years. I carry dial tone on one pair and use the remaining pair's for the network.

It is dangerous to run Cat5 outside without some kind of lightning protection. Even when the cable is buried, lightning can get into it. Have you considered wireless?
