What's your commute like?

  • I just roll out of bed

  • Within 5 miles, I can walk or smell others' armpits on public transports

  • Within biking distance, I hug a tree on the way

  • Drive less than 30 miles, no traffic

  • Drive MORE than 30 miles, no traffic

  • I might as well live and work on the freeway, efff my life

  • Work?

22 miles each way. Bought my car exactly 3 years ago and have 50,000 miles on it now.

Under 2 miles from work. My engine barely has time to warm up. I could walk if I wanted.

For those that live 5 miles or less from work, why do you drive? Don't you know that's very bad for your car? Well, that's unless you're leasing and DGAF.

90 miles round trip, M-F rush hours, 286 and i80 in NJ. Probably about 2-3 hours on the road every day because of heavy traffic.

I'm just past the 5 mile range at 6. I have no public transportation within 3 miles of where I live. I have young kids that have to be picked up from school that is over 3 miles from my house. Biking is a deathwish with no real good biking lines over most of my drive. And weather here can range from sub zero to nearly 100 degrees of balls-to-thigh-sticking amounts of humidity. That's not really that fun trying to bike/walk/scooter in when you have to wear business professional clothing.

13 miles each way, depending on the day it takes me between 20 minutes to an hour to get to work. I friggin hate the commute, never know what to expect.

It's too far to walk (unless I absolutely HAD to) and I'm not frickin riding my bike. Just start the car up 15 minutes before I'm gonna leave, no probs.

No option suitable for me.

12 miles with decent traffic. Depending on the time and day, TONS of traffic leaving. It's a huge government facility with thousands of cars.

Whatever. Work from home, visit customers all over town, meet people for lunches and happy hours, etc. No daily commute.

6 miles for me as well since its a straight shot through town maybe 13-15 minutes. On rare occasion to work I can make it through all 8 stop lights without getting caught by a red light.

5 mile. 17 minutes. No highway, mostly 30mph sides. In today's snowstorm, 21 minutes.
I have biked it but the route is not bike friendly in some sections.

Mine is a little over 30 miles one way and I hit moderate to heavy traffic for about half of it.

Takes me about 50 minutes to an hour most days. I have a fastrak pass which allows me to use the HOV lanes even when I'm the only one in my car and sometimes I ride my Ducati to work which also allows me to use the HOV lanes free of charge. I usually ride on Thursdays and Fridays as those are always the worst traffic of the week especially on the ride home.

Yeah, I TOTALLY forgot that there exist Outside-of-California states with inclement weather and stuff...

15 min currently. New office building will be complete in March, then 5 min.

Not sure if I could ever go back to a serious commute. Drove my wife to the airport this morning. 45 min each way. Sucked. Can't believe I used to waste that much time and more, much more, daily in Los Angeles.

Felt bad for all the people I saw on the way home that I know are leaving at 5am to drive an hour + into the city.

20 miles, 30 minutes in. 45 minutes back home. That part sucks. Maybe 2 miles of it freeway, it varies.

14 miles going to work in moderate to heavy traffic, so 20 minutes to an hour depending.

16 miles going back home (I take a different route home) in moderate to heavy traffic, 25 minutes to an hour.
