So I went home for lunch today. When leaving the house I noticed this old school beat up truck with a confederate flag on the windshield. I also saw the 2 guys getting in. They both look like typical highschool teens, one maybe being kinda rocker/punkish. How do you view these things? Sometimes it kinda offends me... but thats just me...

Lets keep this on topic and no race bashing please.

because they are rednecks?

well, from my perspective I've always thought that the stars and bars were a symbol of racism. Is it not?

For some people maybe for others maybe not

no its not... it is the flag of the confederate states of america.. there were more issues going on during the civil war than just slavery..

Well in that case I am not too offended. But I remember when I took a elective in college (black power and civil rights) there was one african american student that said his blood boiled whenever he saw the confederate flag on pick ups... so I just assumed that it was a racial thing.

Do you also get offended when you see blacks at an affirmative action rally. If you don't than your a hypocrit or a racist. Both are just instances of demonstrations of racial pride.

Just watch out for the revisionist historians that say slavery played no part whatsoever in it.

not upset over it, i just dont put up with racism. I never really understood the history of the confederate flag.. thats why I just wanted other people's input. But now that I see that the flag itself doesnt really portray racism, I am not really offended by it.

Oh it played a part. small part. but a part none the less. But it was not such a large part that many (mainly younger) people think. heck my sister-in-law (13 and very smart) thinks that the norht started the CW to free the blacks. why? because that is what she is taught from the history books.

It (the flag) is not about hate though.

Just ignore it.

This is more of a P&N Issue, IMO.

That said, if someone had one of those in Wisconsin I would definitely thing negatively of them. Since you appear to be in Texas I think it's more ambiguous.
