Whats your take single 8800 GTX or 2 8800 GTS running SLI?

1 single 8800 GTX is the same as 2 8800 GTS's Stick with one 8800 GTX, less noise less heat less problems with drivers and games....

If you can wait, just get a 8900 when the refresh comes. Otherwise a single GTS is fine for that res...

1024x768 anything over a single 8800GTS is overkill.

Overall I wouldn't pick either. I would get a single 8800GTS 640MB ($295 AR). You'll be fine with that at 1024x768 and even at 1680x1050 a GTS is good enough.

I would say grab a single GTX when you buy your new monitor. hopefully the price will come down a bit. for now stick with what you have. at 1024x768 any 8800 is a complete waste of money.

well i am coming from a AGP 6800 ultra vid card is all i have left to complete the system ive been running the lower res since thats what my old set up run if i can run higher i would so anything is better then what i had

Get the GTX and most importantly get a new monitor.

SLIing 2 lesser cards is never worth it over one big card IMO.

It is? AT Multi GPU benches

As far as power, heat and noise, you would be correct. But performance? Different story.

I'm actually weighing the same problem myself. I'm in no rush, but I'll decide in the next few weeks and see what happens with pricing.

Those are at really high resolutions though. I doubt you'd see such a big difference in performance at 1680x1050. I'd say go for the single GTX.

What Extelleron said😀
Have to agree, late last year I had my finger on the button to buy a GTX but decided to save $250 and got a GTS. I haven't regretted that decision since, and the 8800 GTS cards are an even better deal now. Since this is an upgrade from a 6800 Ultra, the performance difference will be substantial. The money saved could be put towards other goodies😎
