What's your stance on Team Fortress 2?

I still pick up TF2 every now and then. It's alot of fun, but yes, I hate having to pick through servers in the browser to find just a normal one that is not about trading hats. Also I wish there were more standard no-mod rotation servers. I like the original maps quite a bit and plenty of them get hardly any face time.
 
I love this game. Haven't played a lick in just under a year. As someone else said, I played like every night (5 out of 7?) for like 2 years.... I almost don't want to install it again - because I know where all my time will go after 7pm... What is this I hear about the grenades? Can I not be a pipe bombing/sticky sticking Scottsman anymore?

When the medic lost the ability to infect people I was never going to like it as much as TFC. There were other things I used to complain about, but I've forgotten what they were. TF2 was ok when it was first released, and I had some fun with it. But now it just looks like random chaos with all the updates.

I don't understand this type of argument. Yeah, Quake 2 takes skill to be good. TF2 also takes skill to be good. Are you trying to say a skilled Quake 2 player is "better" than a skilled TF2 player? You can't make that kind of argument - it has no solid ground or evidence because you're comparing two different FPS and just shouting about one being better than the other.

Yup, you're right, LMCTF is nothing like TF2. That doesn't mean it's harder; one isn't harder than the other, it's an impossible comparison.
I can show you a Youtube video of a TF2 game too and try to show it off as being "better" if you want.

"TF2 sucks, period", isn't a valid argument about one being more skilled than the other. It just means you dislike its' gameplay.

Honestly the amount of crap in these team based objective/class games is getting out of hand. I had fun with TF2 for a while but won't touch it now.

Both team-based.
Both are fps.
Both have rocket launchers and allow kills in the air.

How do I not have any evidence to stand on? I never said quake 2 was better. It's a 15 year old game lofknl. I stated my opinion which is I think tf2 sucks. Seems to be in reference to the topic at hand so go fuck yourself.

For the record, a "kill in the air" with a rocket launcher is by far harder in quake 2 than tf2 ever will be. Don't pucker your ass hole so bad.

Obviously trying to have any reasonable argument with you just won't work. I'll leave it at that.
 
I was able to find a good TF2 community with tons of regulars who don't really care about hats and items. I'll play it pretty heavily every once in a while, but I usually get fatigued and move on to something else/new. I found that the usual round of updates with new weapons and hats actually draws me back in.

I don't remember much about Q2 but the learning curve cannot be greater than tf2. If I remember correctly I was able to get many kills without worrying about the mechanics of the game much.

TF2 you have to know the classes and the weapons to be good. Take for instance playing as spy. There are certain rules of being a spy that comes with experience. For one you never disguise as a scout, you don't go for the easiest kill but for the kill streak without being discovered, you try to look like the enemy by looking at your team as if you are prepared to shoot, I can go on forever but you get the point.

It's not a truly valid comparison. I can pick up Q2 and get good in a night. It took me hundreds of hours to be able to pull off some of the crazy things in TF2 as a spy.

You're dreaming. Q2 requires knowing the maps and the best way to control key points. Armor/rail/rocket launcher. They dumbed spy down so much in TF2. In QWTF you don't go invisible and whenever you bump into a scout/spy you lose your disguise. You had to walk into the enemy base using a regular skin with the color of your team and then switch costumes to look like the enemy. You could feign death but it didn't display a death message on the screen it only played a death sound. Also when you feigned death it didn't drop an ammo pack, which you normally would during a regular death. TF2 spy is much much easier to pick up and go for pub play.

Well you need to know the map for any shooter. Idk yes it sounds harder but the spy is kinda neutered that way lol. It kinda defeats the purpose of sneaking around if you're gonna do it without a disguise.
 
Played TFC, many years ago, and played it until I got tired of it. Just got tired of the constant push forward/die/Respawn/Push forward/die...etc gameplay.
 
I don't play it all that much anymore, but that's mainly because the server I almost always played on died. The updates I don't mind - the weapons that pissed me off have been in the game since day one.
 
Played this game too damn much. One of my favorite multiplayer games. Haven't played it about a year because I've finally moved on to other games. Once the hats started coming out, that's when I started to drift away.

By all means please come kick my ass in q2. I don't stand alone in my opinion obviously. Why do you fan boys get so butt hurt about someone not worshiping the game like you guys? Tf2 requires skill, as wiping your own ass does too. Never said it didn't. I actually loved the game. Well over 100 hours. Just couldn't take all the mindless updates. Therefor, in my opinion, the game sucks.
 
I have a love-hate relationship with TF2. I love the focus on teamwork and the cartoony, "Pixar'ish" look of the game, but I hate that Valve has used it as a guinea pig to test out features (trading, crafting, in-game shop, free to play, etc.) which as a result have definitely changed things.

It's not what it used to be, it doesn't look as good, and the average skill level has taken a hit, but at the end of the day it still is TF2. However, the days of playing on any server/map with total strangers are over. I find that I'm only able to enjoy the game when playing on a select few servers with other regulars that I've come to know over the years.

I do miss the days when updates were all about balance changes. Those were good times. Nowadays there's just too many different items that have been affected by power creep that balance is an impossible task at this point, so the game has gone from "playing to win while having fun" to just "playing for fun".

I believe that there's a server side setting that can disable new weapons. I know if a server doesn't have a connection to the valve servers, you can't use your unlocks. Had Valve just left TF2 as vanilla, the game would only have a fraction of the players it has now. People wouldn't want to play the same game with no changes for 4 years. This gives a reason for people to keep playing. I got more than my money's worth out of TF2 and still go in once in awhile.

It just feels cluttered and people like a somewhat more predictable gameplay..there are so many random items and thigns now days it takes away from the feeling of playing a coherant game
 
I'm not big into competitive play in FPS, but they have enough updates & shit to keep you coming back for more, even if it's only a few times a month. It has more longevity than a lot of games on the market.
 
I put over 2600 hours in the game, but lately, in the last 6 months, my play time has decreased to about couple hours per week. I just find Battlefield series more fun.
 
I didn't read everything here.
Long story short, it was and is pretty much the only thing I repeated play.
Find a server you like. Stick with it.
Don't care for the trading and items? Don't bother. I run my solider with stock RL (Ok I have a Strange) shotgun and pain train.
