What's your stance on Team Fortress 2?

I know a lot of people who have left TF2 because of all the crap with hats, trading, rushed updates and the like, but what do you guys think?

Personally, I can't bring myself to hate the game, but I know a bunch of people who basically ridicule it because of the crap updates.

I was a diehard QWTF player and I was still playing when everyone started bhopping and the game sped up like crazy. TF2 was fun but it definitely felt more casual personally.

All the hats and random things you can buy are confusing if you haven't played in a while but the stock loadouts are perfectly fine. I'm really not sure how they're able to maintain balance exactly but overall I don't think you're at a disadvantage using stock gear. All the extras has kept the community going strong which is great for the game. I haven't played in a long time though.

One problem I have is they removed nades/nail grens from the game originally because they felt it made the game too spammy, but now there is all kinds of spammy stuff flying around in the game.

In QWTF it was awesome when you set up a rocket + midair gren chain or set up a flag cap with a concussion jump.

I played the first one a lot, and was late to get the second one. By then there were hats, crafting, optional weapons, etc. I felt it was overwhelming and that I was likely to be at a disadvantage due to inferior gear. I don't think I played for more than 20 minutes.

Basically the idea of it all scared me away.

You know, its funny. All of us on SPUF like to claim that TF2 is one of the most new-user friendly games out there.

>Needs to get off SPUF.

I still play. I like it. I don't care for the hats and crap, but the game is still the same. A lot of the new items are crap anyway so I don't know why people are complaining.

It's a game you don't have to play for 5 years to be good and have fun, unlike CSS.

It's fun almost every time, which is saying something. The amount of 'fluff' it has can get a little tiresome but at least it doesn't really impact the game. It's just goofy cosmetic stuff.

The only real problem it has is facestabbing :p

Still a very fun game, but I have not played in quite a while. Too many other things to play.

All it took was playing a Medic and popping my Invincible buff on a Heavy one time to get me hooked. I may not play for months at a time, but I always go back.

I've played it since pre-order early access. But in the last 6 months or so, my playtime has significantly decreased. Mostly because the servers I love to play on have become deserted. They only get active now around updates. Plus there are other games to occupy my time. I have no problem with the items and hats. Hats are just cool cosmetic additions and items only take 1-2 encounters with to figure out what they do.

I've played since alpha and have never been disappointed. You like all the crazy new stuff? Awesome, enjoy it! You don't like it? OK, then don't worry about it and just play with stock stuff.

The game is amazing and fun, and I will always play it. I don't even care of TF3 is never made, because TF2 will always be fun.

It's a very fun game. But I think I preferred it before the class-specific updates arrived, the first being the Medic update (was it? I think? it's been a while). So yeah before those updates the game felt... dunno, different somehow, the balance I guess was more spot on. I'm not sure why they (Valve) ever updated the classes with new weapons, was there any demands of was is that Valve themselves thought that vanilla TF2 was "too simple"?

But anyway I think that TF2 is still a fun game, it's just different than what it used to be. I like to compare it to "constantly evolving" MMORPG over time with monthly updates (for the best or worse, or a bit of both). I don't think that anyone whom played TF2 when it was first released (like me, from the Orange Box and retail at that) ever expected it to change that much over time. Maybe an expansion pack... in the veins of Quake 3 Team Arena perhaps? Nah, it was even more than that, regular free updates (free after purchase of course).

I put in like 90 hours into the game, then when they added hats and stuff I quit. It just seem ridiculous and it has just gotten even more ridiculous as time has went on from what I can tell.

It's one of my all-time favorite multiplayer games. The unlocks disturb the balance from time to time, but it adds so much depth to the game all the same.

I don't mind the hats deal, people like style in game (since they likely lack it in rl).

real simple. the hats and rpg updates are GAY. stopped playing when they started adding all the crit bull shit and haven't been back since. last time i logged in i felt like a retarded 12 year old playing the game. old TFC actually takes skill hence why they took out concs all together.

It was a fun game back in 2007, and it's a fun game now. If you don't like the updates, then don't pay attention to them. That simple.

Anyone who says that TF2 has "turned into an RPG" or whatever is sorely mistaken; TF2 has always been about capping points and shooting people in the face. Probably always will be.

This post does nothing but prove that you are that retarded 12 year old.

You aren't forced to get hats.
You aren't forced to use the new equipment in the updates.
Crits have always existed.
TF2 also takes skill; take someone unskilled vs someone skilled and see who wins (hint, it will be the skilled person). Grenades would just add more hecticness to an already hectic game. Want to know what skill is? Shoothing someone who is in the air with a rocket.

It was fun before the fluff.

The new weapons took away from the fun factor. It was a simple, fun game before it all went to shit.

I can see why Vanilla TF2 attracts such a loyal crowd. I haven't played in months after playing damn near every night for the first 2 years it was out. With all of the crafting and whatnot, it has moved away from a simple objective based shooter to a n00b unfriendly shooter.

I've place since beta. Overall a good game, but at each stage of item release I generally go off it as the inrush of noob players or just people in it to get the acheivements is painful.

ie: The inital system of new weapons via achievements, then valve crack the s***s and removes it from people that disagree with the system.

Items via time, valve crack it and ban idel servers (my game, my time, my power, f off valve).

Now it is random drops as well as all the other crap like crates (and needing to buy keys to access them) and the "strange" version of weapons (which make the "item found" when ever it levels up) and going by the update yesterday, there are not "rings" you can give / propose in game with.

It is getting like I had best find something else to play during hoildays (US or Local) as well as the 1-2 weeks after acheivements are released. Even trading for items is a pointless time waste (even if I have a slight collective composive disorter). Trading only cares about crated items and the rares that come from it. Trading is generally in ear buds or keys or cash and I am not going to spend money for that type of stuff.

Now, if only there was a option to display displaying hats. hearing item updates (self and others) and crates were deleted on receiving I would be happyier.

The new weapons are ment to be balanced, but the ones found unbalanced get nerfed quickly. The sandman for example. That being said, I have found only about 6 of the 60+ items worth the hassel of using regularly. another 4 depending on the server mod.

skill? come play quake 2 with me on tuesday nights. offhand grapple + CTF. tf2 sucks, period.

i didn't say you shouldn't play the game, i merely stated my opinion. do you also play wow?

not saying this game is the hardest out there but tf2 isn't even in the same ball park as a face-paced game/mod like LMCTF.

kthx

I wish that there was some way to play vanilla tf2 before any class updates.
