I guess the under $200 works but you need an option for those of us who have paid off our mortgage. :D: :D

I may try to move next year. I am waiting for some things in the company to settle down first.
My mortgage has been paid off for years, but my property taxes are close to $550/month.

Yep, even when you own your house outright, you still have to pay rent to the state. :disgust:

We pay a little over $1000/month for our house. 3bed/1.5 bath, 1400 sq/ft brick ranch on a quarter-acre lot just east of Atlanta. We live in a neighborhood that hasn't gotten "hot" yet so our mortgage isn't really reflective of the often-insane housing prices in Atlanta. I'm betting our property values are going to jump in a few years when people start figuring out there's a nice, cheap housing to be had 6 miles or so from downtown. :D

I'm renting a little 1 BR 3rd floor apartment about 5 seconds away from downtown (ultra convenient location) for $540. I get compliments on the apartment itself from almost everyone who visits. What can I say, 80+ year old buildings are cool in a way. They let my cat stay for free because they like me. I get a reduction in rent to the tune of about $12 per hour for cleaning the halls and laundry rooms of two buildings. It's nice having liberals for landlords. ;)

I want to buy a house. I'm gonna need to keep my mortgage under $1000, which means keeping it under about $150,000. With the average home price being well above that in the city, I'm going to need to do some careful shopping.

$1275 for a 1BR apt. Not including utilities. Damn expensive I think, but my rent is about to drop to $770 since I'm moving to Delaware. It'll probably go up to $1000 or so when I buy a home this year.

East Coast, rent is a bit here but not as much as some cities.

Becuase to buy the apartment I am currently renting would cost about $400,000.
I would need approximately 100K in cash to put down such that my monthly payment would be 2,500.

400K Property, 25% down @ 5% (3 or 5-year ARM amortized at 30-yr) --- $1600 mortgage
+ 900 for condo fees and property taxes ----------> 2,500.

That is assuming I have 100K to spare... not exactly there yet :( Give me a couple years :)

Sometimes it pays to live in a "depressed" economic area :)

Endicott, NY (upstate - in Binghamton Area)

We bought a nice 1400 sq ft brick cape cod two-story with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, finished basement, and carport. Price? a bank-account-friendly $52 000!

Full payment with all taxes included works out to $584/mo

WHOOHOO! Cheaper than rent and it will be all ours in 17 more years (30 yr mtg, but I am making bi-weekly payments!)

$570 per month on a 2200 sq ft house(excluding the 2 car garage) on 3/4 acres of land(corner lot) with lots of trees just above a small(about 10 acres) private lake overlooking downtown Tulsa. Ahhh Oklahoma where to cost of living is still cheap.

My payment is around $1100. 4BR, 2.5BA house, 2 car garage, decent size lot (big enough to say you have a yard, not big enough to hate to have to mow it). Of course a big chunk of that is going to my skyrocketing taxes (bought the house for $106k in '98, latest assessment is for $140k). I pay about $550 in interest, $450 in taxes and insurance.
