Work: 10 min walk
Food/going out/craigslist: generally no more than 20-30 min walking or public transit or bike

Will definitely go out of my way if there's a reason to though (concert, visit friends, fresh powder in Utah, etc)

I have lived a good deal of my life in rural areas. At one point, I was 5 hours from Denver and about the same from KC, 4 from Omaha and 4 from Wichita. Middle of nowhere.

As a result, I now find it no big deal to travel 100 miles or better one way to go get something or do something.

However, I'm now in a fairly populated area and find people in Hartford that have never even been to Boston. They act like a 30 minute trip is a huge deal and way beyond their comfort level.

So, how far would you consider out of the ordinary to say, go pick up a $100 item from Craigslist? Or go do something like eat at a nice restaurant, or go to a sporting event?

Petrol's a lot more expensive here. So:

Nice restaurant: 20-30km
$100 item: depends on weight. For something like a few games or a hard drive or something, it's probably cheaper to courier if it's more than 15km away.
Sports event: most I have to go is ~15km. I'd rather bus though, parking near stadia and places like that are really tricky.

For all these things cost is the most major thing, petrol here is about US$7/gallon. That gets me around 20c/km. But I've been about 150km to pick blueberries, around the same to go to a museum, etc.

When I'm in my hometown, anywhere within an hour drive is easy game. Our closest real shopping (ie, not Walmart/Grocery Store) is a half hour to 45 minutes away.

In Boston it is pretty much within a 20 minute drive, the T, or a <45 minute walk.

Craigslist: 3 minutes. I figure there's already a 20-30% chance I get murdered or sodomized. I'd rather not drive out of my way on top of that.

I can't believe no one has posted how far they'd drive to get laid yet 😱

I just don't measure stuff by Craigslist.

It is a big deal.
New Yorkers drive like retards, Massholes don't know what the turn signal is for, and you can't understand anyone from Worcester, Boston, or NYC.
30 minutes keeps you safely in Connecticut.

Except he's talking about that shithole named Hartford, you would think anyone would want to be at least 30 minutes from that hellhole.
