Why on earth would you BBQ a hotdog? Grill, yes. But BBQ? Who wants to slow cook even a pack of hotdogs for several hours?

Cooking on grill != BBQ.

Pedantic ++. Cooking outdoors is also referred to as "barbecueing" in the common parlance.

Although, I see nothing wrong with smoking hot dogs 😀

ANd where is the option for using Ohm's law? 🙂

wow, thats not bbq, that is crock pot. BBQ entails grilling with BBQ sauce.

edit: They call them Barbeque grills for a reason

because dumbass yankees don't know the difference.

BBQing is slow smoking meat for hours until it is very tender and falls of the bone. cooking hotdogs in a smoker is a pretty tasty method. grilling is cooking on a grille over some sort of open heat source.

At least no one has gone the "Hot dog in the hallway" route

Grill or broil is a must. Boiling or nuking is awful.

A upscale hotdog joint opened near us a couple months ago ("LuLu's Red Hots"). The dogs are footlongs but they are horrible. They're boiled. The dogs were over $3. The dogs that do the perpetual spin at your local gas station are no worse.

You want to open a restaurant featuring hot dogs, you might think about trying to come up with a way that's better than what I can do at home in a microwave in under a minute.

1 minute in the microwave?

Damn, mine would NUKE the hell out a hotdog bun and hot dog and would be SMOKING after a minute.

But, sounds like a good idea!

Slice one side of the hot dog open, stick in some sliced pepper jack cheese, then wrap it in bacon, then foil, then grill it.

Good stuff....if a little unhealthy!

60 seconds in the States and 30 seconds over.

Translation: Two forks and a wall socket. US has 120VAC power, Europe 240. I²R is your friend!

Don't like to play with wires and prefer a UL turnkey solution? Try this for size.

Be warned though. Many humans complain the Presto Hot Dogger, while cooking rapidly and thoroughly, makes their dogs taste funny. What do blind taste tests reveal? Conclusive. It's an electrometallurgic issue. The product was dead before the engineers found the solution...

what the hell is the difference between a barbie and over the firepit, arent they both grills?

A BBQ around my parts is usually a propane fired-grill, whereas a fire pit is ... um, a pit of fire 😀

hrm, to me when soemthing is grilled there are grill marks on it. if it is cooked over the open flame, there is no grill marks on it.

it sounds crazy, but it works. i don't remember the exact time to use though. the dog is nicely cooked and the bun surprisingly is warm but not overly nukefied.

a proper barbeque has a fire pit, but it's off to the side. the meat is not directly over the flames.

Yup, the most convenient way. I used nails, though.
