I was at a bar once and checked the menu and saw grilled cheese sandwich $5.99. I decided to get the sandwich. The waitress even commented that "You'll really going to like it." Heck, that could mean anything. The sandwich came and it had two types of cheese a yellow and orange colored cheese (sorry, I don't know my cheeses). It also had grilled onions and tomato slices on it, with just a schmear or Miracle Whip. Wow, it was really really great. Obviously, everyones taste is different, but to me, this was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever had.

Second best is the Sonic Drive-In grilled Cheese and have them add tomato and onion. For a quick grilled cheese sandwich, it was darn good.

That shit is an abomination. I'd rather eat a dry sandwich than put that crap on it.

Those and also for hot breakfast sandwiches like ham, egg & cheese. And lastly for some cold cut deli sandwiches. American can work there too.
Oh yeah, I neglected the breakfast sandwiches.
Kind of a bottom-of-the-barrel option for deli sandwiches, I'd rather almost any other kind of cheese.

the only cheese I eat grilled is the tomino, it's best if it's wrapped with the speck before putting it on the grill.

not eaten on a sandwich usually but nothing stops you from putting it on a piece of grilled bread.

How about an actually grilling cheese? Aka a cheese you can put on the grill and put some grill marks on it and it won't melt away. It's called Halloumi. I think it's the only cheese in the world that you can apply that much heat to it and it won't simply melt, aka an actual grillable cheese. It's from my homeland of Cyprus.

It's amazing pan fried or grilled over gas or charcoal, along with some fruit like a cantaloupe, honeydew or watermelon, or other fruits.

the cheap stuff.

i can envision a fancy cheese sandwich, but i wouldn't spend money on it.
my idea of a cheese sandwich is actually real italian bread, lightly spread with mayo, slices of mozzarella dipped in oil and with salt and pepper, on a bed of mixed salad with oil, vinegar, salt n pepper, tomato slices, and a boatload of prosciutto. you know .. A SANDWICH.

Definitely. It's pretty unique to have a hot cheese with grill marks that isn't totally melted and still has texture.

It'll be hard to find Halloumi depending upon where you live. I just started seeing it in a grocery store here or there in Northern NJ a couple years ago. We usually just smuggle a bunch in once a year when family goes to Cyprus. But the Greek stores in the city have it. If you have a Greek or Mediterranean store nearby that's your best bet.

That or I checked Amazon and they do have multiple options.

I have a list on my phone of shit to buy if I ever see it.

As of right now:

1. Big zip ties that work as handcuffs
2. Halloumi cheese

lmao. I'm not gonna ask about the #1 on your list. Maybe you can combine them.

Sometimes with another cheese, I'll pass on the tomatoes on the sandwich, but we usually have tomato soup with them and I like to use it for dipping.

As a kid I would always order that when in Greek Town, Detroit. They light that shit on fire, Oppa!

I enjoy grilled cheese sammiches often but can't bring myself to put American "cheese" in them. My panini press, aka Herr Krups, gets a lot of use for this. Good bread, and a combo of sharp white cheddar and Double Gloucester is my favorite. Sometimes I spruce it up with some bacon and tomato.

Steak is the best cheese.

As a topping, some people say cheeze whiz, others say a good pungent provolone. I like the provolone.
