I know that seti classic is finally coming to an end and was wondering what people's plan was after that project ends. I assume some will move to BOINC seti, but I know I'd be pretty pleased if we saw some migrate to F@H 😀

Already started moving some to F@H. More will follow in oh....something between 1 and 11 days 😎
 
Moved to BOINC and - just now - to F@H. May even stay there - it is a close fight between F@H and rosetta@home! 🙂
 
I think I am going to try and remain in a classic state of denial until the last possible second.
Then I might just wash out a few things, leave the computers in my bedroom off at night for a while, and load F@H on everything - continuing to run Dimes of course.

The F@H folks helped us out in seti more than once, their deeds will not go un-rewarded! 😉

So, does F@H have a SetiQueue equiv???
 
I don't know.

I plan on shutting down the work herd, for a number of reasons, except perhaps 1 Dimes client. I plan on shutting down the older crunchers at home. Maybe selling off a couple of them. I may have one cruncher that will run F@H, not sure on that one.

It's been a great run! 🙂

I came to help a little (3100 WU so far) about a year ago and had a lot of fun. I fell in love with SetiDriver (am going to miss it) what a handy program to keep the CPU from going idle and for sneakernetting. I sneakernet F@H but there is no comparison to the ease of SetiDriver.

F@H does not have SetiQueue equiv. If you used it to keep a supply of WUs, then you probably don't need equiv with F@H. Stanford has like 30+ servers so very very rarely is there a problem with getting work (in the past).

heh... no

It's pretty cool to be able to log into your Q from the internet & see what all your machines are doing, or not doing. See your little stats engine purring along.

I know not everyone has a static IP & an internet connected SetiQueue but when once you do it's hard to think of going without it. 😉
 
I have moved my rigs to Rosetta@Home. Its local to me, has a nice client, runs smooth with (so far) no intervention from me, easy to get work, nice points system, and I get real time stats 😛

Already moved my 2 main boxes to F@H. The Thinkpad is still doing TABOO stuff. Should we hold some kind of cyber party?
 
I've been moving my boxes to SETI BOINC, Rosetta@home & Predictor@home. Still crunching UD & DIMES.

I'm seriously considering the same. At least for most of the fleet. 🙂

Whatever I convert to, I'm going to SERIOUSLY miss all the stats I'm used to getting from SetiQueue. 🙁 Not a day went by that I didn't marvel at the great job Ken Reneris did with that program.
 
Does Roestta@Home require the PC be connected to the internet at all times, or can someone with dialup, or sneakernet still run this?
 
Since BOINC has built-in caching, it's no problem to run example Rosetta@home on dialup.

Just set general preference "connect to network about ever N days" to how many days you wants to cache, max 10 days.

Note, BOINC-projects has a deadline, so don't set cache higher than deadline. 😉
 
Rosetta@Home has captured my fancy. I have found BOINC to be a teriffic platform since I am also suporting TAS and will enjoy the flexibility to balance loads of multiple projects as I see fit with very little effort.

Rosetta reminds me of the first DC project that caused my addiction.... Distributed Folding. I loved the work units that didn't take days on end to finish and I loved the goals of the project. (study of protien development to aid medical research for real world cures and forwarding of the science itself)

-You can cache up to 10 days of work so Rosetta is GREAT for SNEAKERNETTING or DIAL-UP
-You can install Rosetta as a service so it always runs on multiple user machines. When you do this you also specify an account and password so you are the only one that can modify the settings.
-You can set preferences about load balancing (how many CPUs to use on MP machines, How much HD is allowed to be used, How much memory is to be used, How often to write to the HD (max.), How often to connect to the internet (you can set a schedule of network activity if you wish...)
BOINC is an amazingly friendly platform!

I have experimented with several projects (all science related) but none compare with what I find at Rosetta.

The last project I participated in (for nearly 3 years) began to get picky about who was good enough (pronounced... "in bed with Intel") to reap the greatest rewards (points). I also had some difficulties in their forum.
Rosetta has provided an avenue to persue a scientific project without those issues.
(Rosetta's forum and their project developers are amazingly friendly and entheusiastic.... I have never been treated as "ignorant" there! :thumbsup: )

It might not be your cup of tea, but I highly recommend giving it a look if you are interested in continuing with DC when the great projects of SETI classic and FAD come to an end ( 🙁 )
 
I haven't forgotten the help we recieved from other projects when we needed it. I'm going for either F@H or SOB or some combination of the 2 to start out with.
 
I only have a couple of laptops, but they're crunching Rosetta@Home from now on.😀

I only had about 3000 classic seti WUs, but I got most of them after joining the TeAm and learning how to install the CLI version. Gonna miss the classic!
 
Already moved on to FaD, but now that that's ending, I'm looking towards BOINC. R@H maybe mixed with a little S@H. There's a proxy issue with BOINC which prevents one of my rigs from connecting at all though, so I'm still open to other DC apps that don't have this problem.
 
R@H looks like an interesting project to run, I wish I had another computer at my command so I could run that project as well. I feel committed to F@H at this point, especially since we need all the help we can get, but R@H has tons of potential. Well thanks to all of you who are switching over to any of the projects that we're running, as there are so many and we could really use support in all of them.
 
I think I'll go grab some shut eye, wake up to clean the dust off my desk, then organize what I have to sell & build again. 🙂
