It seems like a lot of us here are major phone buffs. I'm a bit surprised at the amount of people that have owned many smart phones, so I'm really curious which phones people have used and more importantly, what you hope your next phone to be.

I'll go first. Starting with my first smartphone experience.

Blackberry 8100 - used it for about a year. Excellent phone at the time.
Briefly tried an HTC Shadow - ended up giving the phone to my wife, which she loved
Blackberry Curve - used it until the G1 came out. Blackberry was really unrivaled in these days.
HTC G1 - First android device and I LOVED it.
Blackberry 8900 - Just a souped up curve, ended up putting it in a drawer.
HTC Mytouch - Huge improvement over the G1 in my opinion. I liked this phone so much that even after my dog ate one, I got another one. It was a huge step for Android
Samsung Memoir - Is that really a smartphone? It has an excellent camera though!
Iphone 3g - I bought one for my wife, but tried it for a few days myself. Hardware wise it was excellent, but I can't stand Apples OS, personally.
HTC Touchpro2 - I was hoping this would be a nice phone, but the software killed it for me on what is a very nice hardware phone. It's sitting in a drawer.
HTC Nexus One - In my opinion this is the best phone out right now. It can be argued that a couple of other phones are better, but for a few reasons (not for this thread) I think this is the best phone, for me, currently.

Now, for my next phone, I am looking for a few improvements on the Nexus One.

1. Resolution
2. Screen Size
3. Battery life
Everyone else on the Nexus is really good and I don't have any major complaints.

I will be looking at the Galaxy S when it comes out, but I have little faith in Samsungs android offerings. So I suppose my next phone will probably be the next HTC Device that comes out with a larger than 3.7 inch screen.

Dell's phones do intrigue me too though.

I can't even remember the specifics, but I had 4-5 windows mobile phones before my BB 8100, and that's what I had before my current iphone 3G. I'll probably buy the iphone 4 as soon as it gets fully jailbroken and my apps of choice get updated for it.

My most recent phones:

Sony Ericsson W38i (I think that was the model)
Audivox SMT5600
iPhone 3G
iPhone 4

I have liked all of the phones I have used, and each new one more than the last...so that's always good.

Oh wow, I don't think I can remember them all so I'll start from 2008.

T-Mobile Shadow - Ran Windows Mobile 6.1 - hated it.

HTC Touch Pro - Thought Windows Mobile had improved a bit -- nope. Had this phone for a week until I got a...

Blackberry Bold 9000 - My first Blackberry. Wow, interesting device and a superb communicator. Websurfing on this thing sucks though.

iPhone 3GS - Bought on launch day. Wow the speed difference is huge but really it's more of what I was familiar with. Got tired of of iPhone OS and wanted more so I started looking at Android. Next was...

Motorola Droid - Bought on launch day. Awesome! This phone is big as hell though. Kept it for a month then went to the...

Droid Eris - Form factor is nice and SenseUI is fantastic. This phone is slow and weak though. Went back to T-mobile for the

Nexus One - Bought on launch day. This phone is badass. T-Mobile still sucks in this area though so it was back to the...

Motorola Droid - Bought a new one since I returned the other one. Hmm what's this from Palm?

Palm Pre Plus - WebOS is great but the screen is damn small. Had this phone all of one week before I went back to the...

Motorola Droid - Never got rid of the second one. I still hate the keyboard. Next I tried the...

HTC Droid Incredible - Bought on launch day. SenseUI seems more annoying than anything now and this phone feels cheap. Took this one back after 29 days and went back to the...

Motorola Droid.

I had the iPhone 4 preordered but since I have an iPad 3G, I can clearly see that AT&T's network is still vastly inferior to Verizon's in my area. My next phone will be the Motorola Droid... X. :D

Ericsson T-28 World
Sony Ericsson T68i
Sony Ericsson T610
Sony Ericsson K750i flashed w/ W800i firmware
HTC Dream (G1)
Nexus One

I'll keep the nexus one for at least a year from the date i got it, until next march or so. After that, i'll get the first android phone that works on TMO that meets some/all of the following:

4" screen, higher res. 720p screen would be killer
better battery life
dual core cpu
dual cameras

T-mobile era
Sidekick 1 color- When Sidekick 2 came out Internet mysteriously stopped working and phone had many issues.
Blackberry 7100t
Left due to some issues with the company

Cingular era
HTC Tornado - very tough phone, Very well built.
HTC Wizard - very tough, great quality. WM5 really sucked slow.. WM6 beta came out and the phone breathed again, very snappy. a few months later sold the phone due to
leaving Cingular due to my dad having dropped calls all the time even will full signal( sounds familiar to today eh)

Verizon Era
Samsung U740- First non smartphone, loved how everything worked no lag, still had a qwerty keyboard to type on.
Blackberry Storm- got one in the hype and with the Buy one get one free deal.
Coming Soon: Droid 2

VZW has been great.

I couldn't even remember models numbers if I tried, but the three I've owned over the past 10 years have all been free.

The Samsung Epic 4G is pretty tempting though. It may end up being my first smart phone. I don't like that whole $10 extra for 4G that I can't even use, but it's still cheaper than the other carriers.

Samsung phones are not root friendly.

The Streak has already been rooted.

Samsung also has a fairly sordid history of updates with their Android phones as well.

samsung i760 (not a bad phone, liked the concept of a keypad on the front and the fact that it came with an extra extended battery)
blackberry storm (ugh, terrible. didnt care for the os and web browsing was a chore. havent kept tabs on bb lately but last i heard not a whole lot has changed :/ )
htc touch pro 2 (good phone, *awesome* keyboard, love the world usage capabilities. closely following the android port project, hoping one day to see everything working in android glory so it would make a really nice travel phone)
htc incredible (continually impressed with this phone and with the latest rooting developments and impending froyo release its keeping me interested until...)

next phone?: truth be told id be happy with the incredible with LTE and world usage capabilities. if they want to add in a keyboard with a similar layout to that of the touch pro 2; even better. ive tried the hd2 screen and as nice as the screen is ive found 3.7" to be the sweet spot when it comes to phone screens. few improvements to the droid x keyboard that got ported over and im perfectly content without ever using a physical keyboard on a phone ever again.

A bunch of dumb phone

Motorola Q-first smartphone and I really liked it

HTC Diamond-First touch screen phone and my introduction to ROM's again very happy with it.

BB Tour-Nice phone but BB's just aren't for me. Don't care for the OS and missed having a touch screen.

Palm Pre-Great OS, nice camera, and good hardware idea, but piss poor execution.

HTC Hero-Loved it but underpowered.

HTC EVO-I absolutely love it. Fast, nice screen, good camera, just about perfect for me.

For the future? Couldn't really tell you. I am pretty stoked with the EVO. I wouldn't mind having a higher quality screen. A higher quality camera would certainly be nice.(not more megapixels! Better pictures with what we have, i.e. what Apple has done) A dual core CPU could have some advantages. BETTER BATTERY LIFE

Really what I want now more than anything else is a Netflix app for Android.

Next, I really don't know, like the iPhone 4, and may do a SIM transplant from my iPad to a iPhone 4 for a data only device, am grandfathered in on unlimited data, and go back to a dumbphone and carry 2 phones, not sure...

My first phone was with Sprint..
- A couple of dumbphone.
- Another dumb flip phone with with a camera. I paid $219+tax for this sucker.
- I then was able to get SERO and got the Centro. Thought it was the best phone ever..LOL
- Had the Centro for 1.5 yrs before I got it wet and got a Touch Pro.
Liked the phone but the keyboard didn't work half of the time as all Touch Pro users know this.
- During this time I had various iphones from 2G to 3GS. I never actually got service in the US as I would always buy a couple to bring back with my annual trip to Vietnam. I always ended up selling to people there as its a status symbol there.
- My current one is a HD2. Finally left Sprint for this phone.
Window mobile doesn't irk me as much(or course I'd rather have Android but my peeve is with T-mobile service.
HSPA+ is live here in Orlando and its great when I get it but its so spotty. I still get EDGE inside my house.
Also the SMS lag on this phone is unbearable. HD2 owners know what I'm talking about.
I still haven't figure out how to fix this without having to install another ROM.

I was ready to jump back to Sprint and get the EVO but I'm going to hold out as I know in the next 6 months we will see some incredible phones coming out.
