What's your parallel parking record?

jagec

Lifer
5" total, 2.5" at the front and 2.5" at the rear. I was about a foot from the curb when I was done, and nicely lined up with the other cars which were also about that far away 🙂
I had my backpack with me, so I figured I'd pull out the ruler and measure out of curiosity.

So, what's your record? Total room in which you parked, and you have to have been pretty close to the curb at the end.

This is like asking, "how many times have you had sex?" People lose count after 10 or so. Did you just get your license last week?

Bad analogy on this forum...

If you can't remember details like that (not the exact amount, but a rough idea of what you're capable of), you should start saving for the old folks' home.

How can a "rough idea of what you're capable of" be a record?

What, do you carry a measuring tape around with you to measure this crap?

Did you even read the post? Of course not, I just happened to have a ruler with me and measured on an impulse. Never done it before

I'm talking about everyone you're asking to vote in your idiotic poll.

I get this from a lifer?

Have you even SEEN the other topics that get posted in this forum?

I live in the NYC area and have a manual car and an SUV.

Nuff said.

I do give my props to people living in SF though especially the ones with stick shifts.

At first I thought the thread was "What's your parcel parking record? like a hidden "sex count" thread. Then I see stuff about how tight.

I was like, "Yeah! baby let me "park my parcel"

no clue. I'm not as good as I used to be, though. I did it awsomely for my driving test, but after the test, I went almost 2 years without having to parallel park. nowadays, I can get into most spots that my car can physically fit into, but it often takes 3-4 tries.

Why would you do that? Should be fun when you come out tomorrow to find out that the people in front of and behind you can't park as well as you - you should have some nice dents and scratches to show for it.

I won't parallel park somewhere unless I can leave at least a foot, preferably 18-24" on either side. I have watched way too many cars get bashed by bad parkers... sometimes the damage is no big deal, sometimes it is pretty serious. (my sister woke up to find about $400 of damage due to someone sideswiping the corner of her grand cherokee - smashed the taillight and permanently mangled the plastic bumper)

Enjoy your close parking! If you're lucky someone won't ram you out of spite! 🙂

Because I'm a college student who can't afford to park on campus, and there is only one area nearby with free parking. Competition for those spots is FIERCE.

If I cared about my car, I certainly wouldn't park it there...I'm careful not to damage other peoples' cars, but I don't care if I find a new scratch or something on mine.

too much variation

depends on your car, and the cars in front of and behind you

good point... I find it much easier to parallel park between SUV's, since their front and rear surfaces are almost always a flat surfance that you can easily see from your rearview mirror.
