It used to be a pretty good computer/internet news site, but now it seems more like a gadget site.

There was a time when Ziff Davis media put out some good publications like CNet, ZDTV, etc Those days are long gone.

From what I have seen many of the user reviews are BS and they quibble over very small things. Especially in Mp3 players, you always see crap review like "Not an IPOD" and then a rating of 2 even though the player hasn't been released.

When cnet reviews a product they do a nice job, their site helped me pick a TV. Their customer reviews are another story.

I use them mostly for video previews...

kinda like how everyone uses newegg to do research because of the pictures they provide...just think of cnet videos as more advanced versions of reviews.

good for me.

I like the video previews, and for getting general facts on items... But I don't value their reviews AT ALL.

welcome to the internet. 90% of user reviews are either people who don't know ****** or are fanboys.

Agreed. A few years back they did a format change and really got away from what they were really good at, which was computer/internet news and products. It turned into more of a "what can we sell you today" commercial site. That's about the same time I switched over to AnandTech. Still use CNet for downloads, but rarely read their articles or watch their little videos, because most are just "hocking some sponsors' warez".

I use them to check out gadgety things like MP3 players and the like. They're a little biased but their reviews still stand true and are very complete and detailed. The X5 I recently got for xmas is everything they said it would be (and wouldn't).

I only use download.com, which is part of cnet. And I like download.com, usually has some rare drivers.

It used to be a nice news site, back around 2000. Today it is just a huge advertising pit of refferal links and other junk.

CNET is okay.
I go to that website for information on equipment and to download application. It is not my sole source for this information.

I agree ... they are still ok, but a big step down from the quality they used to have.
