Trying to decide whether or not to sell my 9800 Pro and upgrade...When does the new generation of video cards come out, anyways?

An Athlon 64 of some variety (plus motherboard), and a new video card to replace the "old" 6800GT. 😛

Probably within a month or two.

can i have it? 😛

Not unless you want to buy it from me 😛

I'll get one of those quad core athlon systems when they come down below $100 for a motherboard+cpu. By then hopefully I'll have money.

Mine will be almost complete system, probably around the end of the summer. I'm going to try to go

FROM:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0
Athlon XP 2700+
1.5GB PC3200 DDR
1x30GB Primary drive
1x160GB primary drive
1xNEC 3500a DVD Burner
Radeon 9800 Pro 256bit 128MB AGP

TO:

Athlon64 Dual Core (speed uncertain, depends on prices)
nForce4 Mobo
Radeon X800 XL 256MB PCI-e (tentative, though an nVidia SLI solution is possible)
3-4GB PC3200 DDR memory
10,000RPM Raptor 74gb Primary
300GB+ 7200RPM secondary
NEC 3500a DVD Burner (still works great, no reason to upgrade yet)

I'll keep my same case (just got it in February and to date I LOVE it, best case I've ever had! 🙂, keyboard and mouse, though.

When I have the money, most likely by the end of the year, I'm going to overhaul my computer.

-X-2 AMD CPU.

-New PCI-E Motherboard.

-Video Card to go with PCI-E.

-Two 200Gig SATA HDDs.

-As much RAM as I can buy/fit.

-New case, probably going to be the Antec P180.

-Cooling parts to better silence my computer.

-And anything else that I feel like buying if I have any money left over.

I'm not sure I would load up on 4gb of DDR ram. Who knows when AMD will switch to DDR2 or even 3. I just ordered this:

MSI Neo4 Platinum
3200+ A64 (planned upgrade to an X2, was going to go with a 3700+)
2GB Corsair Value DDR400
X800XL PCI-E
80gb SATA Seagate drive (have 500 gigs of other PATA storage)

Well, I just bought a ton of parts from newegg so I'll be having a nice 3.2ghz HT P4 computer here soon. Can't wait to have a real x86 box for once (had to rely on my shoddy 1.3ghz celly forever it seems like). My next purchase will probably be a new HD so I can back up a ton of my stuff, but that won't be for a while. Unless I find one super cheap.

I can't see my 3200+ or my 6800GT really showing their age for at least another year.

I think you'd see a better performance gain by using one Raptor as your primary with your OS/pagefile/etc on it and the other as your secondary with your games loaded on it.

True.

I'm still on an Athlon XP though (albeit highly overclocked 😉), so I'm starting to feel the upgrade bug. I also have a 6800GT, but I have a friend who wants to buy it for a pretty good price, so I figure I may as well sell it while I can still get a lot of money for it (since if I did an NF4 system I'd need a new video card anyway).

True. If I were in your position, I'd take the cash and save for a PCI-E 78xx series card 😀

That's the plan. 😀 (well, that or an R520, whichever happens to be faster - and isn't being price gouged for $1200 😛)

just bought 2x 320gig SATA drives. that will put me in the terabyte club. (1TB in one computer)

the next purchase would be either a 2405 LCD or a powerbook. although the intel + mac might delaythe powerbook purchase.

for my main box:

-Radeon 9800 card (within the next 2-3 months)
-73GB raptor (within the next 6-12 months)

for my dvr:

-ati AIW card (sometime before fall season)
-third hard tv tuner card (sometime before fall season)
-another 512MB of ram (within the next 2-3 months)

edit: long-term, I probably won't be upgrading to a PCI-E motherboard for another year or two. only pc game I play is WoW, so I don't see much benefit to jumping on board right now.
