What's your most overrated movie

Forrest Gump is my big one. Star Wars is another, although I liked it as a kid and I'll agree that maybe historical context needs to play a part in how movies are viewed.

QFT. So much hype for such a worthless movie.

What were you expecting? 😕

You had to know what the film was all 'about' going in, did you expected CGI ghosts and sudden surprises accompanied by a burst of loud instrumental music? It was meant to look like a couple of dopey teens getting lost in the woods and cataloging it all on camera.

I thought it was good because it was different. Far from perfect but certainly an interesting twist to the horror/suspense genre. The hype came only because there were stupid people saying it was real and got them telling everyone and their mother to go to an art house theater to see it.

Now I know people here, and I know that it's pretty hard to follow directions for the ATOT crowd. So I'll use small words. What's to you the most overrated movie. I don't mean the one you hate the most. I mean the one that everyone else you know loves, but you think doesn't live up to the hype.

Mine ... Fight Club. I don't dislike it, I'll watch it if it happens to be on tv. But I don't think it's that great really.

I agree completely. I was gonna say Fight Club.

Lawrence of Arabia. If my brother heard me say this, he would kill me. But I watched this movie twice and it was like pulling teeth each time. I know it's not the movie. I am probably not refined enough to admire whatever was good about this movie. Perhaps some day I will get it...now Bridge on the River Kwai - that was a cool movie 🙂

There are plenty of overrated movies. Just because a movie is overrated, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. American Beauty. Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption (actually, most Tom Hanks movies and lately Spielberg movies are overrated IMHO). But I still like most of them.

Sideways.

Didnt this movie come highly acclaimed, even was up for an academy award or something?

Either way, movie sucked. And I cant look at that one asian actor the same way again. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

I agree with most of these. However, there's a huge gulf between the first three SW movies (awesome) and the latter 3 (horrid).

I'll toss in Clerks, Memento, Taxi Driver, Million Dollar Baby, and Amelie. Honorable mention: maybe Hotel Rwanda.

Overrated? Fight Club, Pulp Fiction

EDIT: Ok, I think you have to look at movies that have been thought of as "good" at some point. You can't go saying "Blair Witch Project" or "Bobby punches Billy 5" or some random movie and expect that to count. Bad movies are bad, not overrated.

Pi

That movie was absolutely retarded. It had way too much pseudo-science and too many inaccuracies to be deep... and it wasn't mindless enough to just be entertaining. It just sucked.

Lord of the Rings. I walked out of two of them in the theater and only kept watching #3 on dvd because I was amazed at how boring and long it was and how it could still be considered such a great movie.

I'd never walked out on a movie before and haven't since. Only the first two LOTR.
